One time, years ago, I was fishing this gorgeous stretch of beaver ponds when I came across a hole where numerous large browns were sipping on emergers. I was watching the action and contemplating my approach when a blue winged olive spinner landed on my arm. I tied on a BWO dry with a BWO dropper behind it and belly crawled down a slope to get into position unseen. It was the perfect stalk.

Then…a beaver came out from under the bank. I shot him a glare which went unnoticed. I prayed to the fish gods to make the beaver stay near the bank and be still.

That fucking beaver swam right to the middle of the hole, saw me, and slapped his tail before diving under, spooking all the fish.
