So how does he get the above to equal soldiers are heroes and want to be called such? The above is politics and opinion and while he is entitled to it, he is way off IMHO. Some of what you say is true. However, saying something like no American Freedom is currently at stake in Afghanistan is debatable. The reason is that the freedom of future Americans may very well be at stake. Islam is indeed a threat to freedom throughout the world.Chizzang wrote:Blind Patriotism is a mind closing exercise...

Re: "You don't protect my freedom."
As a veteran and a former cop I agree with the author's premise and I think Gannonfan pretty well summed it up. The current hero worship seems somewhat compensatory for the 1960s and 1970s. But at the same time it seems like most of the chest beaters are outside the military or law enforcement, but those who are inside do too little to cool it down. There are plenty of people on the inside who bask in it and that doesn't help.
The author IS a crybaby. And there HAVE been times where the US military HAS protected our freedoms and liberties. I'm on the fence about the Cold War and its proxies like Vietnam, but that's beside the point. I do think that if we find ourselves in an existential struggle, the 5% of the military that isn't in an administrative or support role will fight valiantly to protect our freedoms until they are overrun by the forces of other countries that concern themselves less with gender sensitivity and more with killing.
And Cleets is a pinko commie fag.

I'm actually leaving for Arlington Cemetary in 30 minutes for the funeral of a two star army general. I'll make sure to tell all the people I see today that most of you guys think they are worthless.

Re: "You don't protect my freedom."
Nobody said that. Those that served should be respected. They have volunteered to fight (well, the small % of them that actually see combat). We're just saying that just because you join the military, that doesn't automatically make you a hero. Doing your job isn't heroic.89Hen wrote:I'm actually leaving for Arlington Cemetary in 30 minutes for the funeral of a two star army general. Nailed it. Anyone who thinks Islam doesn’t have the resources, or has never tried, or won’t try to take over the world has no grasp of world history.CID1990 wrote:Said just about every world ruler south of Austria from 600 until around 1295 AD. Corporations? Hillary said that corporations do not create jobs. Demand creates jobs. So the need for oil and mining rights (demand) comes from the American people and not corporations.
