Re: Income Inequality and a FTT
I want spending cut 25%. Across the board--yes, defense included--along with the elimination of several departments completely (DHS, CFPB, Dept of Education, etc.). Cut everybody else back to 2000 levels. Provide line-item veto authority to the budgeting process. Eliminate earmarks completely. And some other things I don't have time to get into right now.Chizzang wrote:kalm wrote:

And no, what were talking about is that
1). We can afford the crumbs
2). A FTT has proven effective in countries more financially "free" than ours.

Nice idea, but this would send the economy into a tailspin.AZGrizFan wrote:I want spending cut 25%. It was an example of how some countries perceived as economically more free than we are pay some of their debt.89Hen wrote:How about we do what's best for our country, not others?kalm wrote:2). A FTT has proven effective in countries more financially "free" than ours.
Do you think our current system of casino style stock markets and crony capitalism is what's best for our country?

When I go to a casino, I know the odds are in the favor of the casino and over time I will lose. I may win a hand or two, or even have a couple good days, but eventually the casino wins. I also know that over time, my investments make money. I may have a day or two, even a year or two where I lose, but eventually my 401k grows.kalm wrote:It was an example of how some countries perceived as economically more free than we are pay some of their debt.89Hen wrote: How about we do what's best for our country, not others?

Re: Income Inequality and a FTT
An FTT is a GPS for big money. It exposes risk and leverage. I gots no problem with most models but its use for 'revenue enhancement' is secondary to holding the money-changers accountable.
But, don't worry. By moving profits offshore in fancy transactions through dummie corps and tax havens, the looters (and the pols in their pockets), their bean-counters and the 'fabulously-well-to-do' will stay one step ahead of the regulators.
It's what made America great. We just have to have a crushing financial crisis and Great Recession/Depression every 50-60 years for account reconciliation.
Next up for our new Congress Critters: Repatriation of that $2+ trillion in overseas profits. During the last Great Repatriation of 2006, the overseas cash repatriated at 5.25% with the promise of "Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!" for America.
How'd that work out?

Wait until you see what an unmanageable debt burden does to this country's economy.kalm wrote:Nice idea, but this would send the economy into a tailspin.AZGrizFan wrote:
