I checked for news articles this morning regarding this and there were none...just a bunch of references to the whatsupwiththat.com. The article you posted didn't have a link to NoAA's information. It's cute how selectively skeptical you are.

It was Steve Goddard who discovered the tampering, and has been cited by numerous websites and publications. Here's his original post, with discussion:

There have been subsequent posts with state specific analysis, discussion of the so-called "zombie" sites, and rationalization of the zombie data, with at least one alarmist even suggesting ALL the zombie sites were always hotter, therefore, USHCN was reasonable to remove those sites from the study and substitute ESTIMATED readings which, by coincidence, changed the results 180 degrees.

I think that part of the reason the media is not trustworthy on climate science is that they are no different from the rest of us: they don't understand sh!t about climate science, so they basically choose who they are going to believe. That means that what they believe, along with what we believe is based in ideology, who you identify with, whatever.

My problem with the pro-AGW crowd is that they tell us that AGW is "settled science". Our SecState goes to Southeast Asia and refers to Americans who are sceptical of the science as flat earthers. The problem with this is that there is a lot of science on both sides of the argument which is not been explianed away or definitively supported. That isn't a hallmark of settled science. Secondly, the ridicule that sceptics put up with only further polarizes the issue.

My main beef with the science behind the theory that climate change is anthropogenic is that I have seen some pretty questionable scientific practices upon which a lot of the "evidence" used by both sides to prop up their theories. Fudging hard temperature data is just one of these issues.

The irony in all of this is that if climate change is indeed anthropogenic AND it is as pronounced as the pro-crowd says it will be, then it is them - the AL Gores, John Kerrys and every single political pundit in favor of the AGW theory that have hopelessly doomed their cause because it is they who politicized it in the first place.

I'm a pretty environmentally conscious dude. I'm all about leaving things the way we found them- as pristine as possible considering that we have billions of people on the earth who generate trash. So I have no issue with doing those things that really do not drastically affect economies in order to hedge our bets against AGW. But whenever I see money changing hands (like carbon offsets- biggest scam since I dont know what- because they do nothing even if carbon emissions ARE the issue) I become immediately skeptical PARTICULARLY when their very existence is based in politicized science.
