IMO most all racism truly starts in the home and is taught by family members. Yes some people will acquire a certain belief do to their "life events" but most kids develop their beliefs on race from their parents...Now many adults can claim that they have eliminated the racial views they had as children now that they have grown up but my experience tells me that when these people get real upset about something the stereo types come back to the forefront of their actions...

As I've told my kids when they ask about racism, in the big picture of things, it is something that we can only hope gets a bit better with every generation. It's only been about 150 years or so since slavery was officially ended in this country so that's the life span of what, 2 - 3 people. That means it is still possible that ones Great Grand Parents would have been alive during that time....it IS up to the Children to understand that racism is wrong no matter what other people they know believe and racism is wrong for everyone.
