There's been misses when it comes to the SEC defense players of the year - Clairborne isn't exactly lighting it up with the Cowboys, and Rolando McClain did jack for the Raiders before abruptly retiring a year or two ago, and they were both even more highly touted prospects than Sam is. Possibly the poor performance was a result of stress; it's hard to picture the SEC's defensive MVP earning that honor without having the ability to play in the NFL. We shall see.
