and I'm not entirely convinced U.S. corporations are over taxed here / the U.S. is still regarded as a business friendly atmosphere - even though we're urged to believe it's on the edge of total breakdown under the stress of over taxation...

I don't quite buy that - but - I'm open for debate :geek:

I don't think we are on the verge of a total breakdown- I think it already happened around 25-30 years ago and we just didn't notice. That's when our heavy industries began moving overseas. Those are the kinds of industries that in addition to being strategic, also employ large numbers of Houndawgs and Klams and keep them happy with a pig in the pot and a Model T in the garage.

Portions of this ^ post coming from a guy on the government dole program (such as yourself) seems a little bit from on high... but I guess once Boeing and Detroit have all completed their moves to South Carolina the final prophecy will have fulfilled itself

You sound like a tea party dude- like the one who told me precisely THAT when I told him where I worked. He was about Vietnam era aged, mil tattoos on the arms... I pissed him off real good when I said "Yep, I've been on the dole my whole life.... U.S. Navy, local law enforcement, and now immigration fraud prevention."

But I don't see how that disqualifies me from pointing out that we have lost all of our strategic industries... the ones that employ the middle class

Yes but I produce "taker offsets" by thwarting additional takers from coming into the U.S.

That's true. We ARE a business friendly country, but for things like the service industries, .coms, retail and very high end niche manufacturing.

I don't think we are on the verge of a total breakdown- I think it already happened around 25-30 years ago and we just didn't notice. That's when our heavy industries began moving overseas. Like you said, the stuff that was capbable of going to China has already gone- and those were our most strategic industries- heavy alloys, components, you name it. Those are the kinds of industries that in addition to being strategic, also employ large numbers of Houndawgs and Klams and keep them happy with a pig in the pot and a Model T in the garage.
It is interesting to note that since heavy industry has exited the US for third world locations, 1). the gap between the middle class and the upper class in the US has widened with more people on the dole; 2). the middle class is better off in countries where the heavy industry has gone; 3). world wide emissions of gases into the atmosphere has increased as those countries are not as efficient in using fossil fuels and limiting pollution as the US.

With limited manufacturing, we are at the mercy of others for strategic commodities and our standard of living falls. Enabling increased energy production and pipeline capacity in the US will spur many of the plastics and petri chemical industries to increase domestic production and employment here as well as those industries that are highly energy dependent, again with increased domestic production and employment that will increase higher paid jobs for the middle class.

Overseas, the increased supply of US energy production will have the impact of lowering the cost of energy sources there and increase disposable income, fostering growth abroad. It would appear that the Obama administration recognizes this and has been trying to limit North American production of fossil fuels in an attempt not to allow expansion of the private economy and wealth in order to make government more powerful using phony environmental issues to do so, as we consume hydrocarbons with less environmental impact than anyone on the planet.

BTW, LB, I agree we should focus on and increase domestic energy production, but how much of the oil shipped down the Keystone Pipeline will end up in the US?

While you're wondering about Obama's birth certificate and plans to socialize everything, you might also want to look at long term trends such as this one:

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/arc ... an/362097/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Obama is a corporatist through and through and if you're willing to play ball with him as a big business, things will more than likely go your way.

Once upon a time, the Republicans were the party of big business. Now, both parties are and that squashes entrepreneurialism and competition in the end. As I've said before, fear big business like you fear big government (or worse yet the commingling of the two) and you'll display a little more intellectual honesty.

It's interesting that when I only reference the current administration in this thread, it gets generalized to all Democrats vs. all Republicans, which was not where I was trying to go.

The larger problem of heavy industry leaving this country pre-dates this administration and has nothing to do with it however, a potential solution to reverse this trend has arisen during this administration, which the administration is actively obstructing by creating straw-man environmental arguments, imo.

I have bought into Dinesh D'Souza's analysis that Obama's agenda for social justice includes exporting American wealth overseas by doing things like subsidizing offshore drilling in third world countries through use of some of our foreign aid and world bank credit, while discouraging energy production in the US. Perhaps that argument is faulty, I really haven't analyzed it in detail, but wasn't working on a generalized D vs R debate, although I have done that on the ACA here.

If Obama is as smart as he is purported to be, then he certainly understands that the chief use of energy is create wealth and raise the standard of living. Even poor old W could grasp that concept and we all know BHO is smarter than W.

Surely BHO understands that Natural gas produces the lowest proportion of green house gases of any hydro-carbon and would thus want to champion the conversion from other fuels to nat gas.

Surely BHO sees that the EU reluctance to confronting Russia with the economic sanctions BHO has proposed on its aggressive imperialistic expansion is based upon Russia's exporting of Natural gas to the EU and that offering an alternative to Russia could stabilize Eastern Europe before we get to the brink of re-establishment of the USSR.

Surely BHO realizes that US technology allows the consumption of hydrocarbons at levels below that of anywhere else on earth with the possible exception of Germany, so that bringing back heavy industry from the BRIC nations would reduce the amount of green house gases produced.

If those items above are correct, then why is the BHO administration not championing the increase in energy production in the US and expediting the permitting process to export LNG? Certainly the answer lies with his critics, who don't control the executive branch of the government with a pen and a phone, does it not?
