I love to pull this one on them (pisses them off to no end) - at DoS, there are fad words and phrases that drift in and out of the common diplomatic lexicon. they will pop up in cables for a few months and then fall out of favor for some new and yet more obscure synonym that illustrates the author's finely tuned intellect. Sometimes these words will actually drift into spoken conversation and thats when i like to play Andy Griffith with these assholes-

Having heard Bush speak on personal levels, I know for a fact that his folksy way of public speaking was affected. I would not have advised a president to do that, but they never asked me. But that kind of thing does drive the elitists absolutely batshit- thats why it is so much fun, at least for non presidents like me.

Who said anything at all about an accent?

Good lord cry me a river
I love the TEXAS accent - I have a life long buddy who lives in Dallas
and he does not sound like an idiot - like Bush did - and I love his accent and language style
plus I have probably my best friend in life who is from Atlanta - and I love that man like a brother

Somebody is a little sensitive.

I can see why, I married a New Englander and have spent a fair bit of time around them. As a group, nobody in the country has a bigger superiority complex or looks down their nose at outsiders more than New Englanders. And you know they call him Opie or Cletus when he isn't around and make jokes about getting cornholed at the Citadel.

I'm sure all of that is true and I have no doubt you're quite intelligent CID. Except when you double down on defending Rush by defending Bush's intelligence. :ohno:
im going to nip this in the bud like i should have in the other thread (where i was confused with JSO and misquoted)

i am not defending Bush's intelligence

i am simply not on the "Bush is stupid" bandwagon with the rest of the nonthinkers

Bush likely had an IQ in the same ballpark as Gore and Kerry, slightly lower than Gore and slightly higher than Kerry.

If Bush was an idiot imposter as you claim, then that would make Gore and Kerry idiot imposters also.

And if someone with an IQ in the mid 120s is an idiot, then 95% of the general public are idiots.

That's not what he claimed. He said that he "comes across as an idiot imposter". The "comes across" part is a significant part of his statement. Bush may have had a high IQ, but he seemed to be intellectually lazy, and that made him look stupid.

Then what does that make Obama, with a complete inability to form coherent sentences without a teleprompter?

10-4 cap'n obvious
Yes we're frequently told what a smart guy Bush was - I get it - he had a 120 IQ (hit repeat button endlessly)

My point, that you completely missed was something different
Re-read my post and see if you can grasp my point (it's subtle but I think even you can grasp it)

I don't doubt that. His post 9/11 speech was one of the best I ever heard, but he did come across as an idiot on many occasions. More so than the average President.
