I guess this is your disappointing rush limbaugh moment for me then, cleets- your view of how people sound being proportional to their intelligence is unexpected
i sound a lot like GWB
raised on a farm in NC and I have a distinctly western NC accent
unlike many "educated" Southerners I am not ashamed of my accent or my local sayings, nor have I taken pains to hide them like a lot of people
and almost daily (at the State Department of course!) I am judged by pinstriped Ivy League colleagues because of my accent (which is fine by me)
I love to pull this one on them (pisses them off to no end) - at DoS, there are fad words and phrases that drift in and out of the common diplomatic lexicon. they will pop up in cables for a few months and then fall out of favor for some new and yet more obscure synonym that illustrates the author's finely tuned intellect. Sometimes these words will actually drift into spoken conversation and thats when i like to play Andy Griffith with these assholes-
Chizz-like political officer: the new Minister of Foreign Affairs is going to be good to work with; he's Harvard educated and pro-American, a pretty perspicacious guy.
Me: Yeah I heard he's a real smart fella in addition to that other stuff

Having heard Bush speak on personal levels, I know for a fact that his folksy way of public speaking was affected. I would not have advised a president to do that, but they never asked me. But that kind of thing does drive the elitists absolutely batshit- thats why it is so much fun, at least for non presidents like me.
I just never figured you for one of those people Chizz
but if you ever want a job at the State Dept youll fit right in like a finely milled widget
Settle down there cheese dip... WTF
Who said anything at all about an accent?
Good lord cry me a river
I love the TEXAS accent - I have a life long buddy who lives in Dallas
and he does not sound like an idiot - like Bush did - and I love his accent and language style
plus I have probably my best friend in life who is from Atlanta - and I love that man like a brother
