Re: The Republicans Will Be Fine
"Working class" people who think they are owed jobs and owed a certain standard of living just because they exist along with public sympathy for such people are lot bigger problem than Capitalists are.
Like last night I watched this thing about the Homestead Strike of 1892. These steel workers decide they should be paid more, get better working conditions, etc., so they occupy somebody else's property and barricade themselves in. Carnegie Steel hires Pinkerton to get them out and there's bloodshed.
AND PEOPLE BLAME CARNEGIE STEEL! That's the problem. It's like if you hire someone to roof your house then in the middle of the game they want more money. You say no so they occupy your house and refuse to leave. And YOU'RE the villian.
It was CARNEGIE STEEL'S property. If they didn't like working for Carnegie Steel they were perfectly free to stop working for Carnegie Steel. They had NO legitimate right, NONE, to occupy Carnegie Steel's property. Yet they manage to come off as the victims.

They spend 5 hours a day fundraising for the next election. They have decent pay, great benefits, and when they get out can easily quadruple their pay by becoming a lobbyist. Why would they want change ?

If enough of them decide to organize and strike they might be owed something more.
It's called a labor market, but thanks for the history lesson. I'm sure Carnegie was the victim.

Here's the thing: They have the right to organize and strike. But if they do the company has the right to say, "Fine. We'll do without any of you and bring other people in." The company should have the right to refuse to deal with the Union entirely if it wants.Working class people are only owed there next paycheck. They can leave at any time.

And that's where the problem is. In this country, the government has taken sides. It has taken the side of the Unions by saying the Company has to deal with them.

There's a monument outside of Wallace, ID documenting turn of the century labor struggles where something like a dozen miners were killed by company thugs. Two sides to this story, John...and the anti union side has been winning for quite awhile now.

Most of those that you refer to as conservatives aren't conservatives, but rather the republican party establishment.Pwns wrote:I would argue that the religious right is a thorn in the side of the republican party. A lot of conservatives are fed up with them and it's very hard to build coalitions to win elections.
It's not like Wall Street is fighting tooth and nail to elect republicans anyways. Obama has been such a good friend to them. His administration makes Bush's look downright bloodthirsty when it comes to prosecuting corporate crime.
I would argue that a lot of fiscal conservatives are a thorn in the side of the republican party. A lot of rino establishment republicans are fed up with them.
-Look at the so called fiscal cliff vote 1/1/13 and who in the republican party voted for it, and who against.
-Look at the shutdown last Oct and who in the republican party folded, and who didn't.
-Look at the 2 year spedning deal passed in Jan, which broke the sequestration, with spending increases offset by futre "promised" cuts (yeah, right) and who in the republican party voted for it, and who against.
-Look at the debt limit increase just voted for, with nary a spending cut including, or any other consession, and who in the republican party voted for it, and who against.
That will tell you are the real conservatives, and who are the phony ones.

I'm a hard fiscal conservative, and agnostic bordering on atheist. I'm anti-abortion, pro-drug legalization, pro-queer marriage, and pro-open borders with caveats.kalm wrote:How man of those fiscal conservatives aren't also social conservatives?BDKJMU wrote:
