Personal taste vs. denial of rights? Nice post JSO. :ohno:
I am all for equal rights. Fight that good fight.

But let's not forget what lies under every denial of rights...one sees others as not deserving of equal opportunities. We happen to bundle some things up conveniently defined as "rights", but in the end, it all comes down to personal preferences.
So when did you decide to prefer women? Or are you still undecided? :suspicious:

You must be too drunk to remember when you, me, SE, Polson, and Grizza posed for this. :ohno:

I just threw up in my mouth. :yikes:

Sorry Jon but I suppose this isn't the thread for Grizza or Hi5 to come to the rescue with some images that erase the memories.

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

 Have a beer, kalm. I'd suggest a Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale. Delicious stuff, and even better these days since it has the word "gun" in it.

You, again, are completely missing the point. dback will discriminate against others...just not as overtly or within the conveniently defined rules.

Anyway, Merry Christmas...or whatever the hell floats your boat tonight.

Cluck, I've been there with you in pointing out when I think Jon has been less than tolerant of other people's opinions and their right to them but this statement by the Pope bothers me. I consider it to be very un-Christian. He has every right to interpret the Bible how he chooses but the right thing to do is to point out what you believe is the error of their ways and to offer assistance in bringing them back into the fold not to state that their getting married is a threat to humanity. That's hyperbole and given the problems the Catholic Church has been having disingenuous as well.

I'm pretty sure he was comparing the efforts to achieve equal rights regardless of sexual orientation to those of achieving equal rights regardless of skin color or gender. But you know that and have just cast a little bait. :stir:

I do try to celebrate and encourage diversity. To me, diversity is about more than race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. It's about who you are and what made you that person. A white kid who grew up on a farm in Nebraska is different from a white kid who grew up in the Bronx. Everyone brings a different perspective to the table, and those perspectives together are more powerful than just their sum.

What? Diversity of opinions? Of thought? Of freedoms? Of racial tolerance? Of sexual orientation tolerance?

Intolerance resides on both sides of the aisle. But it's pretty damn easy to suggest which side tends more toward diversity and which tends more toward homogeneity. And I'm saying that from a non-judgemental, neutral position.

That would be great if everyone actually thought that way, but they don't. To be honest, nobody is completely unbigoted. Anyone who says they are is lying to themselves.

I don't agree with the Pope's stance on this one (I voted for marriage equality in the last election, but I can understand his position. To be fair, at least Jon didn't wish death and damnation on him like he's done to others in the past. Maybe he's becoming more understanding. ;)

"Intolerance resides on both sides of the aisle"... "the side tends more toward diversity"...

So you think one side is more diverse, yet has intolerance. Just seems to be a little more hypocritcal to me.

Yes, it is easy. One side raves about diversity, as long as you agree with them. If you don't you're an ignorant asshole in their minds.
