But let's not forget what lies under every denial of rights...one sees others as not deserving of equal opportunities. We happen to bundle some things up conveniently defined as "rights", but in the end, it all comes down to personal preferences.

You, again, are completely missing the point. dback will discriminate against others...just not as overtly or within the conveniently defined rules.

Cluck, I've been there with you in pointing out when I think Jon has been less than tolerant of other people's opinions and their right to them but this statement by the Pope bothers me. I consider it to be very un-Christian. He has every right to interpret the Bible how he chooses but the right thing to do is to point out what you believe is the error of their ways and to offer assistance in bringing them back into the fold not to state that their getting married is a threat to humanity. That's hyperbole and given the problems the Catholic Church has been having disingenuous as well.Cluck U wrote:kalm wrote:

I'm pretty sure he was comparing the efforts to achieve equal rights regardless of sexual orientation to those of achieving equal rights regardless of skin color or gender. I do try to celebrate and encourage diversity. To me, diversity is about more than race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. It's about who you are and what made you that person. A white kid who grew up on a farm in Nebraska is different from a white kid who grew up in the Bronx. Everyone brings a different perspective to the table, and those perspectives together are more powerful than just their sum.89Hen wrote:Celebrate diversity... as long as it's the diversity of a Liberal.

Intolerance resides on both sides of the aisle. But it's pretty damn easy to suggest which side tends more toward diversity and which tends more toward homogeneity. And I'm saying that from a non-judgemental, neutral position.

That would be great if everyone actually thought that way, but they don't. To be honest, nobody is completely unbigoted. I don't agree with the Pope's stance on this one (I voted for marriage equality in the last election, but I can understand his position. To be fair, at least Jon didn't wish death and damnation on him like he's done to others in the past. Maybe he's becoming more understanding.

So you think one side is more diverse, yet has intolerance. Just seems to be a little more hypocritcal to me.

Yes, it is easy. One side raves about diversity, as long as you agree with them. If you don't you're an ignorant asshole in their minds.kalm wrote:What? Diversity of opinions? Of thought? Of freedoms? Of racial tolerance? Of sexual orientation tolerance?89Hen wrote: Try and refute it.
