I don't think the concept is stupid at all. We have obviously come to a point in our history where people have very different beliefs about the role of government and how things should proceed. And there is a pretty solid geographic pattern to it. I really am sick of having my life largely controlled because of the influence of what I consider to be states populated with flakes like California and New York. And I'm sure people in California and New York wouldn't like having their lives largely controlled because of the influence on the national government of people they consider to be rednecks from states like Louisiana and Texas.

This is why the founders wrote the 10th amendment. The federal government has too much power and requires way too many resources. We need to strip it down to it's constitutional bare bones and leave it up to the states whether they want to spend their own money on education, infrastructure and healthcare or extra defense and tax cuts.
