This kind of thing is why I lament the prevalence of polls. Nothing can be done about it but I think polls impact outcomes. People change their behavior and attitude in response to the picture the polls paint. They may opt not to contribute when they otherwise would have, they may opt not to work for the election of a particular candidate, and they may even opt not to vote because of the impression they get from poll results. I think that the polls even impact themselves. I think that, to some extent, what people see in polls influences how they respond to other polls.

Like I said, nothing can be done about it. But I think our election process would probably be better if polls did not exist. No way that would happen. But I think it'd be better.
