Way to go bronco, sounds exactly like all of the chickenshits who drank bush's koolaid that Iraq bombed NY and or didn't have the balls to stand up to the lies.Bronco wrote:Despite liberal protesters’ claims that Florida’s so-called “stand your ground” gun law demonstrates that Republican policymakers are responsible for the February death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, an analysis of its legislative history shows that it was a bipartisan effort — and that no Florida Democratic state senator voted against it.
One Democrat, Fort Lauderdale state Sen. Mandy Dawson, missed the vote. But the rest of the Senate chamber supported it, 39-0.
And of the 15 states that have passed variations of the law since 2005, the year Florida’s model legislation became law, eight — a majority — had Democratic governors when the laws were enacted. None issued a veto.
The bills in Louisiana and West Virginia passed with Democratic control of both houses in the states’ legislatures, in 2006 and 2008, respectively.
And it doesn’t stop in Florida, the 15 other states who passed similar laws were all done on a bipartisan basis as well.

I also think how you write it is very important. Every state can write it differently, and I don't trust our legislators to write the law in the most sensible way.Col Hogan wrote:I don't see the law as a mistake so we'll disagree...I do want it enforced correctly...BlueHen86 wrote:

I'm okay with people defending themselves, but if I have to live with the stand your ground law, I don't want "stand your ground" to be your first option (unless you are at home). The video that led to this thread gives me the impression that this guy was looking to start trouble and then hide behind "stand your ground" once he found it, and that is exactly what troubles me about the law.

This was an execution, same as Travon. Sonofabitch even sounded like he was reading a script.

The 2011 Norway attacks were two sequential terrorist attacks against the government, the civilian population and a Workers' Youth League (AUF)-run summer camp in Norway on 22 July 2011.
The first was a car bomb explosion in Oslo within Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Norway, at 15:25:22 (CEST).[1] The bomb was made from a mixture of fertiliser and fuel oil[4][5] and placed in the back of a car.[13] The car was placed in front of the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and other government buildings.[14] The explosion killed eight people and injured at least 209 people, twelve of them seriously.[10][11][12]
The second attack occurred less than two hours later at a summer camp on the island of Utøya in Tyrifjorden, Buskerud. The camp was organized by the AUF, the youth division of the ruling Norwegian Labour Party (AP). A gunman dressed in a homemade police uniform and showing false identification[15][16] gained access to the island and subsequently opened fire at the participants, killing 69 of them,[7][8] and injuring at least 110, 55 of them seriously;[11][12] the 69th victim died in a hospital two days after the massacre.[9] Among the dead were personal friends of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and the stepbrother of Norway's crown princess Mette-Marit.[17]
It was the deadliest attack in Norway since World War II,[18][19] and on average 1 in 4 Norwegians knew a victim affected by the attacks.[20] The European Union, NATO and several countries around the world expressed their support for Norway and condemned the attacks.

The jury found Rodriguez guilty of murder...a good ruling in this case IMHO...

Re: Stand Your Ground? Texas man kills teacher over noise
This appears to be a case of someone attempting to use a "stand your ground" law to attack somebody. But I wonder why people are even calling the Zimmerman/Martin thing an issue of a "stand your ground" law at this point.
As I understand it, a "stand your ground" law says a person may use force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without an obligation to retreat first. Zimmerman's contention is that Martin was on top of him beating him and beating his head against the concrete after saying he was going to kill him. Under that scenario he could not retreat. Seems to me like, if his account is true, he'd have been justified in defending himself with his weapon whether there was a stand your ground law or not.
Not getting why "stand your ground" laws are at issue in that case.
