Cheney has always said that gay marriage is a state issue, not a federal issue. Ergo, if Wyoming voted to accept gay marriage, he'd be fine with that.dbackjon wrote:Ibanez wrote:

d does tend to have a laser focus on issues around gay rights and he's right, Cheney has been a very clear supporter of gay rights for many years now. I'm sure he was a dissenting voice in the Bush administration on that front, but he never made his position a secret.Ibanez wrote:What?! Am I reading this correctly?!dbackjon wrote:

I think it's more than that - while he would be fine with the process (the state deciding it rather than the federal govt) he has and does advocate on a state level for equal rights, so I don't think he would just be happy with the outcome.Ivytalk wrote:Cheney has always said that gay marriage is a state issue, not a federal issue. The "Equality State" ironically will be one of the very last to do this.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've had a gut feeling ever since he said he was for traditional marriage in his 2008 campaign, that he wasn't telling the truth. He wanted the independent vote so he took a view of the Republican party to seem to be more centrist. Over the years, I think I've been proven right. He may still say that he isn't for marriage equality, but the repeal of DADT and him saying he's "evolving" on the issue are clear signs. I don't know what he will do this campaign season, but I suspect if he wins in November, he will be all for marriage equality. Just a hunch.Yup - and his stance on LGBT equality is far more progressive than Obama's

I had no idea. I knew his daughter was gay. I guess HIS war overshadowed everything else.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
