Tom, Republicans really need to get over that his is a citizen. They were pissed because a mulatoo, the Brown Aristocricy made it into the White House. It's racists ignorance. He's a natuarlized citizen, born in Hawai'i. Regardless of his father being a Kenyan. In fact, between him and McCain, McCain needed Congress to officially naturalize him in 2008 due to him being born in Panama Canal Zone. Naturalization is an ambigous topic. He's has provided multiple, legitimate certificates of live birth. There is not some high level conspiracy, which started at his birth and orchestrated by the Democratic Party, to elect a mulatoo to the presidency in 2008. I bet 'spanos would agree.
I'm not sure it was racist - let's be honest, if McCain had won the election there would've been a small but vocal group of Democrats who would still be railing on today about how McCain wasn't a naturalized citizen. Fringe groups like these are found in both parties in equal numbers and I think it has more to do with zealous partisanship than anything else. These people can't see past the D or the R.
If McCain had won, there'd be no Tea Party. Fact!

Dude, I don't need a lecture. I only included it in the list because its one of the things the fringe groups have frothed at the mouth over. Hence my post regarding "real and imagined" issues. :coffee:

Eh, I don't know about that. It certainly wouldn't have been as big as it is today, but if McCain had pursued the same financial and economic plan that Obama has, there certainly would've been an undercurrent of people advocating very much the same thing that the Tea Party has advocated. But yes, it would be smaller since the truly racist would've not joined.

It's sad. People hold onto that shit and fail to understand how our election process works or how our constitution was written. The Constitution isn't perfect or clear (obviously) but if you don't understand it, you just sound like a jackass when you say shit like, "Bush stol the election".

I don'tknow about that. THe Tea Party, who claimed to be fed up with everything, didn't start until After a Democrat was elected President and thier name alone, Taxed Enough Already (TEA) is thier war cry. That's the war cry against democrats, not republicans. If they wre tired of all the bs in Washington, why'd it take them 8 years? I don't think they would've emerged if McCain had won.

Not that much different as to when partisan groups (NOW for instance, Sierra Club, etc) tend to go quiet when someone from their party is elected, and they squack more when the other party is elected. I would assume it's a matter of working from within versus working on the outside. You hear the outside noise but tend not to notice the stuff that goes on inside.

So are you suggesting that if a Republican wins the White House in 2012, we may hear less and less from the Tea Party?

The Tea Party IS the GOP. These aren't independents who finally "had enough" the movement was started by DCI (a right-wing operations firm) and Dick Armey. A whole shit-load of Tea Party related URL's were registered well in advance of a staged "meltdown" on CNBC by an "analyst" at the Chicago Merc. Exchange that "went viral" (as planned) calling for a "second Boston Tea Party"

It was a recruiting tactic, a way to rally the base - and little else... the only problem for the GOP is that it has basically become a case of the tail now wagging the dog. They need that fervent fired-up base so badly that the more intellectual aspects of the right have lost a significant measure of control that they once had over the party.

The only thing that unites any of these people is opposition to Obama and little else. Their ideology is confused, unfocused and yet at the same time rigid and inflexible. In essence, it's a lot of angry partisans... in other words - it's fucking Moveon.org circa 2002-2004, and little else.
