Interesting take...
The problem is that so much has been said and printed on the topic that was unsubstantiated, that if actual ties are proven, that news will be blurred by what was insinuated before. You made your bed, guys.

A lot of sources today talk about how Trump was reportedly frustrated with the constant focus on the alleged Russia ties, but assuming those allegations are not true, and remember nothing has been proven after a year of echo-chambering, isn’t it at least a little understandable that he would be?

Comey was already compromised from 10 different angles, and many wanted him gone, though not necessarily at the same time . The same Democrats, and their media, who now scream murder because he was fired, fell over themselves clamoring for his resignation for months. That does not constitute an opinion, it’s the opposite of one: you can’t change your view of someone as important as the FBI director every day and twice on Sundays without losing credibility.

And yes, many Republicans played similar games. It’s the kind of game that has become acceptable in the Washington swamp and the media that report on it. And many of them also protest yesterday’s decision. Ostensibly, it all has to do not with the fact that Comey was fired, but with the timing. Which in turn would be linked to the fact that the FBI is investigating Trump.

But what’s the logic there? That firing Comey would halt that investigation? Why would that be true? Why would a replacement director do that? Don’t FBI agents count for anything? And isn’t the present investigation itself supposed to be proof that there is proof and/or strong suspicion of that alleged link between Russia and the Trump election victory? Wouldn’t those agents revolt if a new director threw that away with the bathwater?

Since we still run on ‘innocent until proven guilty’, perhaps it’s a thought to hold back a little, but given what we’ve seen since, say, early 2016, that doesn’t look like an option anymore. The trenches have been dug.

These are troubled times, but the trouble is not necessarily where you might think it is. America has an undeniable political crisis, and a severe one, but that’s not the only crisis.

https://www.theautomaticearth.com/2017/ ... versation/
I've been thinking along these lines for some time now.

I've assumed Trump is guilty of.... something, and I've assumed that he is not, and worked from both angles. The behaviors we are seeing out of the White House are more understandable if Trump is clean (and assuming that Trump is easily aggravated). The second paragraph is key.

I think Flynn is the guy on the hook, but that is independent of the Trump campaign. He likely would be in hot water even if there wasn't this focus on Russian meddling.

Reuters is the only place I get my news. Their minute by minute ticker is literally continual minutiae but there's zero slant to any of it.

Comey needed to go. The handling of the Clinton's e-mails was a disaster. You had the head of an investigative agency inappropiately hold a press conference (not his job to make such an announcement):
-Laid out the crimes that someone committed (the threshold of gross negligence was clearly met) as if he was making a closing arguement.
-Said that he was recommending that person not be charged, mentioning that intent couldn't be proven (completely irrelevant since intent isn't part of the statute).
-Claimed that no prosecutor would bring charges in this case, when their was reportedly unanimity among the investigators & lawyers working the investigation that charges shouldn't be brought, with a # of former federal prosecutors later saying the same thing.

The final nails in the coffin were probably last week when testifying before Congress.
-Wouldn't confirm that there would be an investigation of the leakers.
-'Speak or conceal' in regards to one of the FBI's choices in regards to the newly discovered emails last Oct.
-Comey testified that Abedin forwarded hundreds of thousands of Clinton's emails to Carlos Danger. In reality she only forwarded a handful of those emails. Comey never later corrected that..

Now Trump probably should have fired Comey back in Jan. Regardless, right action, piss poor timing & handling. Just like the 1st visa ban, his admin was caught flatfooted, totally unprepared to defend the firing. And then Trump gets pissed that the initial news cycle was a disaster because his people weren't initially defending the firing, because they were unprepared to..

You usually get caught flatfooted by something out of your control... that you can't plan for or expect to be coming.

Not a controversial executive order or firing an FBI director.

Trump has absolutely no leadership skills. So much for the CEO President.

My money's on Ted Cruz - a plum gig that he'd have a tough time turning down (especially to burnish his resume for a possible SC nomination), and gets him out of the Senate where he's a potential thorn in Trump's side. Plus then Trump could fire him at will...

If Trump is a moron that wants a bigger fight and more controversy to help hold back all the rest of his agenda then...

You are right, he probably will and it might be the best thing for a lot of us that he has to just fight over this one even longer.

Speaking of Reuters:

One thing is undeniable: Some of what we have been told with respect to this incident by people in the Trump Administration is false.

I think that if Comey had gone to Congress and talked a lot about how the FBI is focusing on investigating people who leaked stuff like Flynn's activities and said they weren't going to investigate possible Trump campaign collusion with the Russians he would still have his job. Do you disagree with that? Keep a straight face.

The short clip is part of a 31-minute White House interview set to air Thursday night on NBC Nightly News...."

None of which changes the fact that Trump directly contradicted the line that the White House had been putting out in previous days. My bet is he also lied about Comey telling him he wasn't under investigation. Made me think of him saying the NFL wrote him a letter expressing concern about the debates. But perhaps we'll find out more about that as time goes on.

McCabe should be fired too.

McCabe’s wife having accepted $700,000 in political contributions facilitated by Hillary Clinton ally Terry McAuliffe, the Virginia governor, for her state Senate run.

As reported by The Washington Examiner, Grassley noted McCabe already is being looked at by the inspector general for his involvement in the Clinton email investigation, despite his wife's ties.

Yeah, its not going to be McCabe:
"FBI No. 2 did not disclose wife's ties to Clinton ally, records show

As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, Clinton confidant and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe urged McCabe’s wife to run for statewide office shortly after news reports were published that Hillary Clinton used a private email server and address for all her government business while serving as secretary of State.

For the reporting period of October through November 2015, McCabe's campaign filings show she received $467,500 from Common Good VA, a political action committee controlled by McAuliffe, as well as an additional $292,500 from a second Democratic PAC....."

And, he's currently under investigation by the inspector general - same investigation that was reviewing Comey's actions.

How about letting the Inspector General do his job and make his findings known?

What about the President's campaign being under counter intelligence investigation by the FBI? No rush to judgment! They've investigated for months! Time to move on!!!

TRUMP: James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

He's practically asking for an impeachment at this rate...
