There was no more "United" States of America, Congress disbanded, never to convene again.
The USA didn't exist.

They really shouldn't be doing the "take down the Confederate monuments thing." It's like a movement where all of a sudden some people decided to start demanding that. They're just being assholes. Like what they did in New Orleans. There was no real reason for it.

It's particularly bad to insist on removing a memorial to Robert E. Lee in Virginia. The guy was simply put in position of having to decide between command of the Union Army offered to him by Lincoln or remaining loyal to his State. In those days the State was, I think, viewed as sovereign. He simply made a decision to remain loyal to those closest to him.

He was an outstanding military commander and the State of Virginia should be proud of him as a native son. He gave up a career he loved in the US military because of loyalty to Virginia. People who want a monument to him in a State he gave up his US Army career for taken down are vindictive pricks.

If you choose to incorporate the symbols, you generally get labeled in a certain way. Neo-nazis seems appropriate for some of those who went to the rally.

Sherman was a despicable human being. A not so well known fact about him is that he is the one who led the effort to wipe out the Buffalo on the Great Plains solely for the purpose of starving out the Indians.

I hate to agree with Orrin Hatch, but he was right on this time: My dad and uncle enlisted to fight against scum like that. I happen to agree with leaving the statues alone and not trying to whitewash history but that's small **** comparitively and the time has come to give the Nazis what we gave them last time they pissed us off and if that's going to happen in the streets of our nation so be it. Be interesting to see which side the cops come down on at nut cutting time.

The problem is that this is more like Germany in 1925 than Germany in 1938.

We have two extreme sides and we need to be going after both of them.
