C'mon, Cid. Vietnam was the most publicly opposed war in US history. Are you really trying to deny that there were a LOT of people who did whatever they could to avoid being sent over there? Hell, even conk gun fuck here Ted Nugent didn't put his money where his mouth was.

There were also a lot of people that wanted to go over there to kill gooks.
And then there were a lot of people that grew up believing the domino effect. Korea was only a decade (less than a generation) before, The Berlin Wall was new, The Cuban Missile Crisis was fresh in many people's minds, The Prague Spring was crushed in brutal fashion in 1968.
Sure, you had a bunch of hippies protesting, but you also had a lot of people who believed we needed to prevent the Commies from taking over the world (or at least impairing the American lifestyle, which all those carefree hippies enjoyed at someone else's expense).
In the end, America got tired of the body count (revived during Bush's wars, but somehow no longer reported by the media during Obama's wars)...but it took a while. And even then, as now, people sign up for the military.
Not cowards like you and houndpuppy, or smart people like Chiz*...but a lot of people still believe in fighting for 'Merica.
*"Smart" being relative...and also subject specific.
