It's not the republican's fault that more counties are predominately republican. If you don't like it, come up with some new system to elect House members. :coffee:
You're making the same mistake DSUrocks made. That's not how it works. Districts are not drawn up by county.

They are drawn up by population.

Gerrymandering occurs when the party in power in the state government redistricts to maximize favorable demographics.

NOT based on geography, NOT based on counties, NOT based on land area, etc.

And, yes, Democrats do it as well in states they control. I'm against it regardless.

It also wouldn't be that difficult to face. A cluster analysis using GIS would work fine... it would create the number of districts needed with equal population, without regard for any demographic information.

Tech experts: Health exchange site needs total overhaul
WASHINGTON — The federal health care exchange was built using 10-year-old technology that may require constant fixes and updates for the next six months and the eventual overhaul of the entire system, technology experts told USA TODAY.

The site could be perfect, but if the systems from which it draws data are not up to speed, it doesn't matter, said John Engates, chief technology officer at Rackspace, a cloud computer service provider.

"It is a core problem in the sense of it's fundamental to this thing actually working, but it's not necessarily a problem that the people who wrote HealthCare.gov can get to," Engates said. "Even if they had a perfect system, it still won't work."

Recent changes have made the exchanges easier to use, but they still require clearing the computer's cache several times, stopping a pop-up blocker, talking to people via Web chat who suggest waiting until the server is not busy, opening links in new windows and clicking on every available possibility on a page in the hopes of not receiving an error message. With those changes, it took one hour to navigate the HealthCare.gov enrollment process Wednesday.

Those steps shouldn't be necessary, experts said.

"I have never seen a website — in the last five years — require you to delete the cache in an effort to resolve errors," said Dan Schuyler, a director at Leavitt Partners, a health care group by former Health and Human Services secretary Mike Leavitt. "This is a very early Web 1.0 type of fix."

"The application could be fundamentally flawed," said Jeff Kim, president of CDNetworks, a content-delivery network. "They may be using 1990s technology in 2.0 world."
$630 million was paid for this

Now I'm pissed off that the Tea Party basically ran cover for him for these last three weeks.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Crammed into conference rooms with pizza for dinner, some programmers building the Obama administration's showcase health insurance website were growing increasingly stressed. Some worked past 10 p.m., energy drinks in hand. Others rewrote computer code over and over to meet what they considered last-minute requests for changes from the government or other contractors.

As questions mount over the website's failure, insider interviews and a review of technical specifications by The Associated Press found a mind-numbingly complex system put together by harried programmers who pushed out a final product that congressional investigators said was tested by the government and not private developers with more expertise.

This is going to be epic. So Obama and the Dems have turned down a one year pass for the individual mandate (you know that whole shut down thingy we just got through). Now when this site doesn't get up in time for the deadline to sign up (and folks, it won't get up in time for that deadline), all these people will get hit with the IRS fine because of government incompetence. No way Obama and the Dems issue a one year delay to address this website issue. Obama has backed himself in a corner and fucked himself (and the rest of us) yet again.

Also keep in mind that this is just the fucking website. Just wait to see how well the rest of this program "works".

Our graceful and merciful Glorious Leader has bequeath us commoners with a reprieve on the tax...not a tax...penalty for six weeks.

White House OKs limited waiver on health penalty
WASHINGTON -- With website woes ongoing, the Obama administration Monday granted a six-week extension until March 31 for Americans to sign up for coverage next year and avoid new tax penalties under the president's health care overhaul law.

The move had been expected since White House spokesman Jay Carney promised quick action last week to resolve a "disconnect" in the implementation of the law.

It comes as technical problems continue to trouble the website designed as the main enrollment portal for people who don't get health care at work.

As a consequence, Republican lawmakers, and some Democrats as well, are calling for a one-year delay in the penalties most Americans will face starting next year if they remain uninsured. Monday's action by the administration stops well short of that, and amounts only to a limited adjustment.

Under the latest policy change, people who sign up by the end of open enrollment season March 31 will not face a penalty. That means procrastinators get a grace period.

Previously you had to sign up by the middle of February, guaranteeing that your coverage would take effect March 1, in order to avoid fines for being uninsured.

The extension — granted for 2014 only — addresses confusion that was created when the administration set the first open enrollment period under the law from Oct. 1-March 31.

The problem was that health insurance coverage typically starts on the first day of a given month, and it takes up to 15 days to process applications. So somebody signing up March 16 — well within the open enrollment period — wouldn't get coverage until April 1, thereby risking a penalty for being uninsured part of the year.

The administration "has determined that it would be unfair to require individuals in this situation to make a (penalty) payment," the Health and Human Services department said in guidance issued Monday evening. As a result, the department is creating a special one-time hardship exemption for people who get covered by March 31. And they won't have to file additional paperwork to apply for the exemption.

Yes, the hits do keep coming...

President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years. :dunce: :tothehand:

Buried in Obamacare regulations from July 2010 is an estimate that because of normal turnover in the individual insurance market, “40 to 67 percent” of customers will not be able to keep their policy. And because many policies will have been changed since the key date, “the percentage of individual market policies losing grandfather status in a given year exceeds the 40 to 67 percent range.”

That means the administration knew that more than 40 to 67 percent of those in the individual market would not be able to keep their plans, even if they liked them.

Yet President Obama, who had promised in 2009, “if you like your health plan, you will be able to keep your health plan,” was still saying in 2012, “If [you] already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance.”

Interesting? No. Comical? Yes. Maybe they should have taken the Repubs up on their 1 year delay during the "shutdown negotiations".

If I were the GOP, I would refuse any delay of the mandate now. It's their bed that the Dems have made, now they have to lie in it.

Appears that our new premiums will increase about 20%. Not just the employee portion but the entire premium. Who knows, might be a coincidence.

Under the new rules, we have to take prescription coverage, or we risk prescription coverage going up when we retire based on how many years we didn't have prescription coverage. Our prescription coverage would be approximately $2000 per year. Last year we spent less than $200 on prescriptions. So I either spend an extra $1800 per year now, or risk having to pay a lot more later. Awesome choice.

Review:
1) I have to get a much more comprehensive plan that I don't need for much more money.
2) I can't get it now because the website is so FUBAR'ed.
3) When I do, I have to be very concerned, apparently, about security issues with my personal info.
