No. I'm still pondering over the need to arm teachers. Seems expensive and a poor way to go about it. At my high school we had an armed cop at all times. Seems like a good start.
FIrst not every teacher will want to carry or shoot a gun. Second its easy access to students. Third whos paying for it? Fourth what about subs?
Kalm posted an article in another thread that addressed this.
1. Don't mandate that teachers carry, because as you mention, some people are not comfortable doing so. Fine. Don't.
2. Do away with gun-free school zones. Worked real well in Newtown and Littleton, huh?
3. Do away with restrictive CCW laws in certain states. Competent non-felons should be able to defend themselves via CCW.
4. The cost is free, unless you want to subsidize training.
There is one state where these conditions exist and many principles and teachers carry: Utah. The precedent has already been set. The state's cost is $0.
I can't guarantee anything, but I'd be willing to bet that if two or three teachers at SHES were packing, less children (and perhaps none of them) would have been slaughtered.
