I wasnt around then, but there's these things called history books

Chizz has taken leave of his senses but you ate just being ... you

But ill give you the benefit of the doubt- hows about you do Chizz a solid and back him up with a source that says more than 75% of the people didnt want to be in the military

and then we'll come back to the relevant discussion after you obfuscate on a couple more posts

Chizz don't need me, you do. He's been taking you to school all day. :coffee:

All these history books and you don't have a source? But you want one from me? :coffee:

I lived through it every day with the 6 o'clock news and five of my friends big brothers who didn't come back. You go with your history books, I'll go with first hand experience of the subject. :coffee:
I thought it was common knowledge that the GI bill was born out of WW2. Guess not.

Well if you really want to know, you'll have to come up with a less nebulous statement. Try to be specific and not speak in sweeping generalities and we'll go from there. :thumb:

Everybody knows that, but it doesn't really have anything to do with either the original point of the thread or the one that the thread has been diverted to. When the GI Bill came about doesn't matter, the point was that it was used as an enticement to get people to enlist at a time when very few wanted anything to do with the military because of Vietnam. Like I said, after we bugged out of Vietnam it was taken off the table and a "new GI Bill" introduced with less favorable conditions attached. :coffee:

the claim is that 75% of people who join the military dont want to be there. you even claimed it was higher during vietnam, safe expert on the subject that you have established yourself to be

but the claim is still 75% and that will need to be sourced

and here's why you have no choice but to play your ridiculous play - because it CANNOT be sourced because Chiz pulled it out of his a$$. It was his opinion and you played bobblehead agreeing with him, and now you crapped the bed in the attempt

so for those keeping score

vietnam was an experience that you had to experience as a teenager watching the news in order to be an expert

the GI Bill was created as an enticement to service during vietnam

more than 75% of the people actually in the military during vietnam didnt want to be in the military

between 1964 and 1975 the US military consisted of 8.7 million service members. during the same period, the draft produced 2.2 million service members (SOURCE: Wiki) So we'll assume those 2.2 million didnt want to be in the military. AND we'll assume that another 2.2 million joined the air force and navy to avoid being drafted into the infantry. i believe that is a generous assumption. that brings us to 4.4 million, which is a very liberal estimate of that number of people who truly would have preferred to be sitting at home with houndawg rambo becoming couch experts on the vietnam war.

AT BEST that gets us to 50% during the vietnam war

i showed you mine, now show me yours, rambo

That's your opinion and it's mainly based on your partisan outlook on everything. The problem with most of the posters on here is that you're so divided, that you can't or won't acknowledge any good that another party has done.

Now to the "re-education" thing:

It IS scary. It's not something compelled by government. But it's scary nonetheless.

Like a NFL player tweeting that seeing Sam kiss his "boyfriend" was "horrible." Now he's got to go to brainwashing seasons.

You know what? That WAS horrible to look at. Nobody should have to go to brainwashing sessions for stating the obvious. But it is what it is.

And he'll come out saying he's been "educated" when in reality he still thinks something like that looks pretty darned disgusting. But he'll play the game. He'll be browbeaten into representing himself as thinking "correctly" about things.

The simple fact that you don't get and the reason you're wasting your bile on this subject is that there are five different "GI Bills", none of which are named GI Bill, and the GI Bill that started in 1944 is not the same one as was started in 1952. Or the one from 1966. Or the one from 1972. Or the one from 1976, etc..., all different right up to the post 9/11 version. :coffee:

Oh, and, from wiki: "The United States military moved to an all-volunteer force in 1973 and veterans continued to receive benefits, in part as an inducement to enlist......" If you can't get that simple fact right what else are you wrong on? Just sayin'...

I said nothing about the GI being a tool to get enlistees. That was one of the main reasons I tried to join in 2001. Serve my country and get my school paid for. You chose your words poorly. That's all, it's happens to us all. There are various bills that all build and expand upon the original, 1944 GI Bill. Excuse, Servicesmen's Readjustment Act. You made it seem that the GI Bill was born out of Vietnam.

C'mon, Cid. Vietnam was the most publicly opposed war in US history. Are you really trying to deny that there were a LOT of people who did whatever they could to avoid being sent over there? Hell, even conk gun fuck here Ted Nugent didn't put his money where his mouth was.
