The Catholic Church is totally full of shit. They distribute secular dollars then take credit for it. Typical Joltinian scumbags.

The Economist estimates that 57% of the church's U.S. spending went to Catholic health care networks, with an additional 28% to colleges, 6% to day-to-day operations at local parishes and dioceses, and 2.7% to national charities.

The church is also the largest charitable organization in the U.S. Its main group, Catholic Charities USA, along with its subsidiaries, reportedly has a paid staff of more than 65,000 and serves more than 10 million people. The Economist says it distributed nearly $5 billion in aid to the poor in 2010, with nearly two-thirds of those funds coming from state, local and federal government agencies.

However, the church has also suffered very high-profile financial losses due to some horrific scandals.

"The molestation and rape of children by priests in America has resulted in more than $3.3 billion of settlements over the past 15 years," The Economist notes, "$1.3 billion of that in California." And while that might seem a small sum for an organization that can dole out $170 billion, most of those settlements were made by local religious orders and dioceses, which have had to scramble to find those funds.

I said the largest charitable organization in the WORLD. Stay on point, don't twist things to suit your losing argument. :coffee:

The US government funds Catholic Charities, though, because it is one of the most effective charitable organizations which delivers services with no little take on overhead. But that is only ONLY one organization through which the Catholic Church delivers services, so it is not correct to sat 2/3 of Catholic charity, even in the US, is funded by the government.

Your post otherwise supports the fact of the Church's remarkable charitable record. :coffee:

It's reassuring to realize that the enemies of the Catholic Church are lying sacks ... Makes me very comfortable to know who our enemies are.

First, it's not the largest in the world. The United States government, a secular organization, is the largest charitable org in the world, by far. So, you lost this argument long ago, but still, try to keep up.

Little or no take on overhead!? Show me the books, Joe.

The US government isn't a charitable organization, so guess what, YOU LOSE AGAIN.

But few dollars of US government humanitarian aid is given without a political purpose, so guess what, YOU LOSE AGAIN.

Plus, 2/3 of what Catholic Charities distributes in the US comes from government money, but that is only one of numerous Catholic charity organizations in the US, and furthermore Catholic Charities operates worldwide, so guess what, YOU LOSE AGAIN.

Liar Joe, falling behind again.

This ain't court, Pedo Joe. The US government is a charitable org. We give hundreds of billions to aid the poor and oppressed each year. The Catholic Church pales in comparison.

Show me the books on church giving, PJ. I'll be waiting...

Keep it up PJ, and Shamu will make another appearance.

The US government isn't a charity. The Catholic Church distributes more humanitarian aid than any charitable organization in the world.

In 2011, The Catholic Church and Catholic organizations distributed worldwide nearly $1.5 billion in humanitarian aid from its own funds (not funds received by Catholic Charities from the US government). Far and away, this was the single largest line item in the Church's overall worldwide budget for 2011.

In 2011, the US government distributed $4 billion in "humanitarian aid." The vast majority of this sum was given for political purposes; directed to certain countries to curry favor with its political leadership. In a $4 trillion budget, this "aid" represented just 0.1% of the US government's overall expenditures in 2011.

Catholic Charities would be in a strip mall if it wasn't for secular gov aid. The majority of dollars distributed by the church comes from secular sources-FACT.

How Joltinian of you to dismiss the billions in healthcare, Medicaid, veteran aid, housing and food assistance and other welfare given to millions of people. Don't forget the billions given to Lutheran Social Services and thousands of other charities. We give billions all over the world.

You were better defending pedophiles and sadists.

That can't be true - you've said numerous times that Catholics are blind sheep allowing all these evils to happen. So either they are largely, as you are purporting here, independent thinkers who do not follow the dogma, or they are sheep who do follow the dogma. But you seem to think they are both, which doesn't make a lot of sense. You seem to be disagreeing with yourself depending on the point to be made.
