Obama vs Clinton

Post by SeattleGriz »

I am not following this very closely, so do any of you more informed guys buy into her report?

Essentially, Obama is letting everyone attack Hillary because he can, and the question is will the Clintons counter attack?

The Clintons must also go on offense, meaning possibly threatening Mr. Obama with her knowledge of any relationship he may have had with the Clinton Foundation donor network, the lies about Benghazi, and so on. Whether or not their side of this highwire negotiation works depends on what leverage they have against him.

Plausible, but doubtful.

There are a few tells in the article that suggest the author may not fully understand some of the details (such as the suggestion that Cheryl Mills' communications might be protected under attorney client privilege- not true in this instance). But that's not really material- just an indicator that she's just speculating wildly.

In reality, a potential breach of national security (in this case, classified up to TS/SCI Talent Keyhole) triggered an automatic investigation by the FBI which was prompted by two IGs saying that there was a likely security violation. The White House would not have been able to prevent that without a major revolt in the intelligence and DoJ communities. I don't see the investigation as a White House attack (although the Clintons, who see political power as a permission slip to do whatever they want - may see it differently)

I see it as the White House choosing to withdraw a bit from the process because they do not want to be drawn in to what is a purely Clinton problem of her own making (and counter to what was agreed when she took the post- the emails with Blumenthal alone show she defied the WH)

The proof in the pudding will be what happens once the FBI investigation is complete- and that could take a long time- if Clinton doesn't try to attack the WH, then she'll be fine and the AM won't indict her. I don't think she is so stupid as to risk that. If she continues to obfuscate and claim innocence without implicating the WH, she could well be the DEM nominee.

Thanks for the analysis and SHIT, I really wanted a Obama vs Clinton smack down, but it doesn't sound too likely.
