Interesting...
So does the Police Mans Oath of Honor say anywhere:
1) I must like the Mayor in order to uphold my oath
2) If somebody hurts my feelings I will disavow my oath

No it doesn't, it says this:
On my honor,
I will never betray my badge,
my integrity, my character or the public trust.
I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions.
I will always uphold the constitution and the community I serve.

That's all fine and well, but in real life things are never that simple and you don't just get to make it simple by saying "period" after whatever it is that you're trying to oversimplify. Of course everyone is responsible for their own actions. Even in the "yelling fire in a crowded theater" the people who didn't yell fire and who are stampeding over other people are responsible for stampeding people, but that doesn't excuse the guy who yelled fire either. I'm not in the know enough on what exactly Blasio did say or did do in the leadup to the cops getting gunned down, but it's certainly plausible that someone could say something enough and loud enough and in the wrong situation that could make them a party to responsibility when someone hears their message and goes out and acts on it. TOTALLY off topic but I think that an awful lot IS black and white. People like to avoid saying there is. But I think that, ultimately, there is the truth. We just may not know what that truth is.

In this case, for instance, it is either true or it is not true that those officers would've gotten shot like they did regardless of what the mayor said or did. We don't know whether it's true or not. But that does not mean there is not a black and white, absolute, truth.

Back to the topic: In any case the mayor did not do the right thing. Whether anything he did or said was a factor in the two cops getting killed he should've had the balls and/or the sense to stand up and point out the obvious: There is no basis for thinking what happened to Garner was because he was Black. It's very reasonable to believe that If that had been a big White guy the same thing would've happened if the big White guy would've resisted arrest the way the big Black guy did.

A big guy is outside stores illegally selling cigarettes. Stores call police to complain. Police show up. When they show up they find a big guy out on bail after being charged with illegally selling cigarettes, driving without a license, marijuana possession and false impersonation selling cigarettes again. They try to take him into custody and he slaps their hands away while saying, "Don't touch me."

Does anybody here REALLY think that the question of Race needs to come into that picture in order for it to end in a scenario where the police try to take him down? ANYBODY?

Yet the Mayor felt it necessary to play into that Race crap.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Interesting opinion on why the right really shouldn't be siding with cops on this one.
It ought to infuriate them now. Instead, too many are permitting themselves to be baited into viewing discord in New York City through the distorting lens of the culture war, so much so that Al Sharpton's name keeps coming up as if he's at the center of all this. Poppycock. Credit savvy police union misdirection. They're turning conservatives into their useful idiots. If the NYPD succeeds in bullying de Blasio into submission, the most likely consequence will be a labor contract that cedes too much to union negotiators, whether unsustainable pensions of the sort that plague local finances all over the U.S., work rules that prevent police commanders from running the department efficiently, or arbitration rules that prevent the worst cops from being fired. Meanwhile, Al Sharpton will be fine no matter what happens. Will the law-and-order right remain blinded by tribalism or grasp the real stakes before it's too late? Look to National Review and City Journal before laying odds.

Easy fella. Don't start blaming the right for poor negotiation of a future union contract. This is nothing but an issue of the lack of neutrality expressed by the Mayor. He fucked up, and the police, and much of the public, is letting it known. And in the process, have redirected the attention from the protestors to this little spat.

Source?

Or is this hyperbole founded on an assertion that ALL unions are founded upon communism?

I blame the Chief Cop, who let this happen. This is a public display of disrespect. The NYPD should have told its officer's that a funeral for a fallen brother is not place to have it out with the Mayors office. This is why I freaking hate unions. The police first job is to protect the public, not become and occupying army. So freaking sad.

You're missing the point. This is a case of over-reaction theater by the police perpetrated on a case of over-reaction theater by De blasio.

If Reagan was the mayor they'd be fired. If Teddy Roosevelt or AZgrizfan were the mayor, they'd be shot.

Now YOU'RE missing the point. If Reagan, TR or I were mayor we wouldn't have gone full retard like de Blaiso did in the first place and this whole thing (including the brutal executions of two cops) would have been avoided. The ONLY one who's overreacted here was de Blaiso when he felt the need to respond to the decision of a grand jury 1500 miles away in a state that he doesn't live in.

What. The. FUCK. Where does "occupying army" come into this?

And if THIS is a public display of disrespect, how would you describe de Blaiso's comments? That moron fired the first shot in this very public battle....

This is idiotic. We know de Blaiso is stupid based on his inexplainable need to comment on the Ferguson grand jury decision, but to blame shitty contract negotiations on this just means he's also a shitty mayor. It has nothing to do with the actions of the cops at the funeral...that's a horrible reach by the author.
