Here's what's interesting:
In Washington and Colorado (both)
Marijuana was - with complete cooperation from the Police departments - moved to a non arrest category
2001 in Washington and I believe 2004 in Colorado
meaning the cops didn't care if you smelled like pot or had some in your possession
Effectively "decriminalizing" the drug
This was the case for about a decade in both states before they moved to officially legalize it
This buffer period was seen as an essential step in the legalization process
So right now Mississippi is ranked 4th among states that Arrest for Pot possession
In other words they like arresting people for possession of Marijuana
This is an interesting combination of circumstances
My BET is the Police in Mississippi will absolutely NOT support the bill
Unlike Colorado and Washington where the Police were instrumental in passing the legalization bill
