Because almost 350k dropped out of the labor force. If you could get those 10.35 million who are counted as officially unemployed by the govt to say in surveys that they have quit looking for work, then poof, we could have zero unemployment! But our labor force participation rate would still be at a 35 year low.

"The decline in labor-force participation has been nagging policy makers and economists for years. The drop in the unemployment rate from 10% in 2009 to 6.7% at the end of 2013 comes with a very large asterisk, because much of the improvement is simply due to the participation rate falling to a 35-year low of 62.8%, not to a fundamental improvement in the jobs market....."

That's why the govt's so called unemployment rate dropped from 7% to 6.7%
You're right. I would still hate to see what the TRUE unemployment rate is in America. :ohno:
Well, you have the BLS's U3 of 6.7%, which is basically BS. The one that gets all the media attention, highly politicized. The one that was fudged before the 12' election.

Gallup, using a different methodology, has it at 7.4%.

You have this:
"...Take a look at this Reuters chart via Twitter user/trader Reinman_MT. When you combine the unemployment rate with the 30 year average labor force participation rate, it shows a vastly worse employment situation (10.8% unemployment!). It's not age-adjusted, so we can't tell how much has to do with demographics versus the economy. It's still a sobering chart for anyone getting too jazzed about the recovery."

And you have the BLS's U6 of 13.1 %.

Just in case anyone has forgottten or doesn't know, a good definition of the U6:
"The "U-6" includes two groups of people that the "U-3" does not:

1. "Marginally attached workers" - people who are not actively looking for work, but who have indicated that they want a job and have looked for work (without success) sometime in the past 12 months. This class also includes "discouraged workers" who have completely given up on finding a job because they feel that they just won't find one.

2. People who are looking for full-time work but have to settle on a part-time job due to economic reasons. This means that they want full-time work, but can't find it.

Two pretty important groups of people, no?"

I was born and raised Pentecostal but left as soon as I got adult age. TRUST ME! Since then have been Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian and Episcopalian. Not necessarily in that order. Have good from them all, but prefer the Episcopal Church for the openness. Got tired of the Catholic church telling me that eating meat on Fridays during Lent is a moral sin. PLEASE!!! I love this new Pope though and the fact that he is making half of them itch tells me he is doing the RIGHT THING!
What? What catholic was saying eating meat on Fridays on lent was a sin?
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
