It was only a matter of time before the question came up. Tom Scheck of MPR reports: “Recent reports about clergy misconduct in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis threaten to put new financial pressure on an institution already under some financial strain. Even before recent revelations about alleged misconduct of priests, the archdiocese was concerned about the impact a new law could bring in dozens of new lawsuits against the church for clergy sex abuse. In fact, church officials met privately with attorneys to discuss ways to protect archdiocese assets from creditors. … Scott Domeier, a former accountant for the archdiocese, said bankruptcy was discussed openly among top officials. Domeier, who is serving three years in prison for filing improper tax returns and stealing more than $600,000 from the archdiocese, said church leaders constantly worried about legislation that would extend the statute of limitations for sex abuse victims to file a civil suit against their abuser.”[/img]

May be a bit premature, but let's do it anyway:

Statutes of limitations provide safeguards of substantive and procedural fairness, to ensure that a defendant can adequately defend itself. It is fair to require a plaintiff to bring a suit in a timely fashion, before time lapses, evidence is lost, witnesses die.

You don't think the Church is entitled to a fair shake, so you cheer when states -- under extensive lobbying by greedy personal injury attorneys -- abrogate a law which ensures fairness.

More money for Ander$NAP, less money to feed the hungry and shelter the poor, more lawsuits by dubious victims naming dead priests who can't defend themselves.

What California, Delaware, and now Minnesota have done is a travesty of justice.

You've been covering up child rape for centuries. Time for you and your church to pay.

Money for the poor? 98 cents out of every dollar given to the church funds catholic nonsense.
