Rooms have to be found for dozens of Secret Service agents, someone has to carry a selection of presidential basketballs, and of course the family dog needs his own state-of-the-art aircraft.
Arriving in the idyllic coastal retreat of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Mr Obama left behind him in Washington DC high profile debates over the budget, government surveillance and his health care reforms. Instead, he will spend the next eight days playing golf, going to the beach, and buying books from the Bunch of Grapes bookstore.
In the air he swapped his suit and tie for khakis and a blue shirt with rolled-up sleeves, while Mrs Obama wore a yellow-and-white summer dress.

You're about 50 years too late with the Nero/Rome meme. You need to find a mentor like BDSKASS before you can play here.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

a little off topic but Air Force 1 flew directly over the Central FL Blueballs compound early Saturday afternoon, carrying 0bama from his speaking engagement at the Disabled Vets convention in Orlando back to Washington, DC.
I was out by the pool in the back yard and saw it coming, remembered that AF1 was in town, and retrieved my binocs I keep on the back porch to get a real good view as it was probably only about 5-6k feet high.
While I certainly despise the occupant of AF1 with all my being I was moved and in awe yet again of the majesty of the aircraft. That thing is LOUD, rumbling with power and beautiful to look at.

How dare you gaze directly at the prez. You're supposed to avert your eyes.
I love the spin. Instead of it being a non-story about using the helicopter specifically for personnel while Bo hitches a ride along, it becomes a story about using the helicopter specifically for Bo while personnel hitch a ride along. Awesome!
Who cares. Like him or not, he has a stressful job and access to the nuclear launch codes. I don't know about you, but I want that guy to at least relax. Hell, his vacations are nothing like ours. He's NEVER off duty.

Agreed. The President doesn't even have to live at the White House if they don't want to, and they're certainly not required to work from there. The WH is obviously more convenient due to its location and established infrastructure, but if the President wanted to work out of a studio apartment in downtown Cheyenne during their whole term, there's technically nothing stopping it from happening.
I actually went through all the thread topics back through before the event to see if I saw anything that looked like a discussion of the Osprey thing before I started the Osprey thread. Actually looked at this one and said to myself that I'll look at it after I I started the Osprey thread to see what it is about.
Anyway, I still want to know if the dog was just hitching a ride on a flight that was going there anyway or if they actually sent an Osprey to get the dog.
You know, Federal Employees have to operate under Ethics rules designed to avoid even the perception that they benefit in terms of Federal resources from working for the Federal government. Even if it doesn't cost the government anything. The government will destroy things and/or throw them away rather than just let employees take them once they are discarded. And if a Federal employee is driving a government vehicle and drives a block out of their way for personal reasons that's a violation.
They are all employees of the Executive Branch. The President is just the Chief Executive of that Branch. He should have to live by the same Ethics rules. He shouldn't derive ANY personal benefit involving the expenditure of Federal resources. Anything spending related to him should be spending on things directly related to his performance of his duties. Period. And that's true whether it's a Democrat or a Republican.
