George Will Seeing the Light...

Post by kalm »

And so is David Vitter. Are conks starting to come around to the ideals of populism and breaking up entrenched power?
By breaking up the biggest banks, conservatives will not be putting asunder what the free market has joined together. Government nurtured these behemoths by weaving an improvident safety net and by practicing crony capitalism. Dismantling them would be a blow against government that has become too big not to fail. Aux barricades!

Why not just eliminate the "too big to fail" concept?
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

No dispute here. I've opposed TBTF from the beginning.

Because some of the megabanks really are too big to fail.

George Will is spot on. There is nothing antithetical to conservatism in breaking these big banks apart. Matter of fact, you could certainly argue that our banking system itself is largely antithetical to both conservatism and liberalism.

Ding, ding, ding!

And the fact it's not a part of either party's platform is telling.

I think most common sense people are against "entrenched power".
The only major exceptions are Obama supporters, the big banks, and anyone who believes in a single payer healthcare system. :coffee:

As soon as a Republican is back in the White House... you'll be back in favor of "entrenched power."

Just don't remember too many Conks complaining about the expansion of power in the executive branch under Bush and Cheney.

Maybe you were outspoken against that and I just remember incorrectly. I doubt it, though. :coffee:

Really? You don't remember conks railing against the Patriot Act? Railing against the HLS Dept? You have selective memory, analjelly.

Yeah. Expansion of power. That's why we want the DOE, EPA, HLS, IRS, and several other departments completely abolished. :x

Where did the complaint about expansion of executive power during the Bush presidency come into the discussion about TBTF? I don't see the connection.
