You know, there are talks about widening the road to Kiawah.89Hen wrote:Most probably do and I loved the times I've been in Charleston. My only complaint is Kiawah is too far from downtown.Ibanez wrote:I think most of you go to the tourist traps. To be honest, the survey listed Cape Town is #2. I don't know about the #1 spot for the world, but we are consistently a top city in the US. Canadians love SC, Myrtle Beach in particular.

I can believe that it's one of the top places in the US, but Paris, London and Rome are the top three in the world in terms of tourist volume, IIRC.Ibanez wrote:You're in the majority.Grizalltheway wrote:

Chucktown doesn't make Forbe's US top 10, which is good for those of us who can make it a weekend trip.

Easier for us that live here. Btw, we thank you all for your tourist dollars. It helps us control the rest of the state.ASUG8 wrote:Chucktown doesn't make Forbe's US top 10, which is good for those of us who can make it a weekend trip.

AFAIK, the Conde Nast ranking isn't about volume.Grizalltheway wrote:I can believe that it's one of the top places in the US, but Paris, London and Rome are the top three in the world in terms of tourist volume, IIRC.Ibanez wrote:

Re: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession
It can't be. I don't know the numbers, but NYC has a greater volume than CHS. I believe it is tied to the history, the appeal, Conde Nast voters, etc...89Hen wrote:AFAIK, the Conde Nast ranking isn't about volume.Grizalltheway wrote:

Re: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession
I've had to go once. You know how it is when family and guests come to town..."I just have to go and eat there." The food is only decent Cracker Barrel quality. Her other restaurant on WIlmington Island, which is more geared for the locals, is a little better than decent...but not much.Ibanez wrote:SHe exaggerates. I've been on a few shoots with her. Other than no concern for kitchen sanitation (licking spoons and then reusing that spoon to serve, i.e) she has a great publicist. That is the key to being a celebrity chef, a publicists. Have you been to Lady and Sons or her sons restaurant? Horrible food.Baldy wrote: The only thing that isn't fake is her southern accent...well she might exaggerate it to some extent. Her food is decent, certainly not great, but she is one hell of a businesswoman who has perfected and sells her "brand" well. The tourons are lined up and wrap around her restaurant every...single...day.

I've been there. After I alerted the waiter to the roach in my wifes soup, they asked if we wanted another bowl. Obviously not. THen they put up a fuss when I refused to pay for the live roach soup.Baldy wrote:I've had to go once. You know how it is when family and guests come to town..."I just have to go and eat there."
