PA Voter ID Law Pushed Back
A judge in PA didn't strike the law down today - but effectively pushed enforcement of the law until AFTER the November election. PA voters will be asked to show ID next month but it will not be mandatory to vote as GOP lawmakers had hoped.

Re: PA Voter ID Law Pushed Back
It's the right call. The judge ruled that there wasn't enough time to get everyone photo ID. The law can go into effect in future elections, but not this year. I'm in favor of voter ID, but there needs to be adaquate time to get everyone the proper ID. There was too much chance that voters would be disenfranchised.
Besides, PA republicans don't want voter ID to fight voter fraud, they want it so that Romney can win PA. Here is a clip of Republican Pennsylvania state rep Mike Turzai:

What are people opposed to voter ID afraid of? Voter intimidation? Shit I face that every year when I walk into a polling place that is 85% staffed by uber-liberals and when they see my party affiliation I get the cold shoulder.

Uhh, that's exactly why conks push these laws so hard. Take the people whom they know won't be voting for their guy out of the equation entirely.BlueHen86 wrote:It's the right call. Yeah I gotta agree with Hen (as much as that kills me)
If you can't be bothered to get registered and ID's to vote - fuck off - The state has the right to enact laws
Does it help Republicans
yeah I guess if Liberals are too fucking lazy to follow through then they get what they deserve
As long as it's constitutional I'm cool with it

Re: PA Voter ID Law Pushed Back
Canada requires a photo ID to vote. So does Germany. So does the Netherlands. I certainly understand that some Republicans see this as a way to stop some people (i.e. Democrats) from voting, but given that plenty of other places require photo ID, and considering that it is widely documented that the voter rolls in the US have somewhere in the ballpark of 1 out of every 8 records is in error, we should and need to do something. However, we're stuck in the same pitched battle between partisans where Democrats say nothing is wrong and there's never been fraud in American elections and Republicans professing to just be about protecting the rights of legit voters while secretly hoping this keeps Democratic voters from being able to vote. It would be nice to have a non-partisan group just sort this out and clean things up, but we seem to be lacking such a non-partisan leaning group to do that.

I believe that the judge agreed. The issue was giving people enough time to get a photo ID.Chizzang wrote:Yeah I gotta agree with Hen (as much as that kills me)

I don't know how there are people out there without a photo ID, but I guess there are lots of them. Chances are these people won't have photo ID next year either, but then there will be no excuse.
On a related note, I had a good friend in HS who was legally blind, he got photo ID from the same place I got my drivers license photo. It was an official Connecticut issued ID, it looked just like a drivers license but the borders were a different color.

Donks have already been proven to be hypocritical on this issue- they don't want people to be able to have to show ID at the polls, but they required people to show ID to get into the donk convention....
