Are you making excuses for a barbaric and useless bunch of assholes by comparing them to an equally barbaric and uselss bunch of assholes from 200 years ago? Way to live in the past. When you get through playing in the way back machine, come join the rest of us in the current era. It's not like these **** are living in the 1800's.
NO I am NOT making Excuses for barbaric behavior, however, I was attempting to make the point that Religion is not evil, but man is. Christianty nor Islam is evil. Its the stupis shit that men do, like stoneing a woman to death or blowing up a abortion clinic.

I "mostly" agree with your point
Religions are not evil
As much as they tend to be myopic
And structured around poorly informed ancient texts having little to actually do with morality

Oh, and religion is evil. Pure freaking evil.

But religion is part of humanity
Since the beginnings of mankind we have looked at the stars and the moon and the sun and attributed them to a higher power - this is part of being HUMAN - it's what we do - it's built in

So in that regard I don't see it as evil
I see it as common - a common ancestral trait passed down since antiquity
This trait cannot be broken - it is apart of who we are

It isn't a part of who we all are. Rationality is also a human trait. The question is which will win out -- rationality or superstition.

Your enthusiasm is appreciated
But throughout history - how many times has Rationality won out over Superstition..?

I'm curious as to the total number if abortion clinics that have been bombed since Roe v Wade. Add to that the number of abortion doctors who have been killed by other methods. One if you nerds go research that for me. Klean?

Rationality has mostly won in the West. Go to a church in Europe on a Sunday morning. You can usually count the number of congregants on your fingers and toes.

I would suggest that the propensity to stare into the heavens and walk away with the firm and unshakeable notion that it is due to some all powerful super being that lives in an invisible realm other than ours is an evolutionary holdover in some humans, and that those of us who have evolved a little further have overcome the need for spiritual assurance from a fairytail. When I look back at history and at the current world I feel that far from helping us, religion and the human propensity for it has caused far more harm than good. And currently the two religions causing the problems are islam and christianity. Islam moreso.

That is purely opinion, so maybe I do have an ace to grind.

I mostly agree with you
All a guy has to see is a News Headline that something blew up and you already know it was Islamic
But they are a third of the world / The poorest most ignorant third of the world
No excuses for Islam - it's a train wreck
But were they all crazy and violent the would would be utter chaos

as it stands the likely 2 percent that are / means there are over 4 million completely insane Islamic nut balls roaming the earth

That's a lot of crazy people

Lets be sure we're talking about the same thing here. I don't consider it necessary for you to actually strap a bomb to yourself to be an extremist. I would include anyone who considered it acceptable to kill others if they insult your god. Not that you yourself would do it, but that if someone did you'd consider them justified.

But you're probably right, 98% of muslims are peaceful fun loving folks. They're just misunderstood.
