Not surprising. I ask the question before where will bond investors go. I think the question is answered. Makes one wonder if the downgrade is really what is moving the market. Or is it moving because stock investors fear it will moveJoltinJoe wrote:And where are the investors fleeing for safety from this uncertainty and turmoil? Us Treasuries! What an indictment of S&P. How far did the Markets fall. I heard Japan was 2% which means we won't know the impact until later after the markets have accepted the downgrade. Don't blame you for pulling your money. I also have no idea of whether they will go up or down, but the impact will be more clear at the end of the week.
Hopefully it won't get much worse.

Yes, it is the latter -- a self-fulfilling prophecy.OL FU wrote:Not surprising. I ask the question before where will bond investors go. I think the question is answered. I wouldn't buy now - you don't buy in the middle of an avalanche. You wait until you think a price is bottoming out - then you buy. Gotta think the Dow will go to 10K or lower soon (before the end of August), buying above 11K seems overly optimistic......

How do you know its an avalanche?bluehenbillk wrote:I wouldn't buy now - you don't buy in the middle of an avalanche. You wait until you think a price is bottoming out - then you buy. Even if it is, I'd prefer to buy the whole way down and take most of the risk right out of it.
Then again, I'm not buying to sell immediately anyway. I'm buying to hold longer term (5 years+)

Believe me I don't want to lose any money just like everyone else but it's a global cluster&^$ right now & the US is one of the countries leading the way. Other than gold it's hard to say where to put your $$ at, even though I think oil may be looking good sooner than later....

They should have worked with the Dems to get a deal done sooner, rather than play brinkmanship just so they could push their agenda. They probably should have just raised the debt limit without all the strings. I don't recall previous debt limit raises being this difficult to accomplish. Considering what was at stake, this one should not have been any more difficult than the rest.native wrote:What would you have had the republicans do differently, BH?BlueHen86 wrote:Maybe congress will learn a lesson if we give them all a two year time-out.![]()
I don't think I will vote for a single incumbent. The only way things will change is if we stop enabling these a-holes and vote them out. All of them, not just the ones from the "other" party.
They are all to blame. Anyone who tries to place the blame squarely on Obama or squarely on the GOP is not being honest about things. They all suck.
I'm not saying the GOP agenda is wrong, I agree with much of what they are trying to do, I just think the timing was wrong.

You are correct, they had AAA ratings from S&P and virtually every Donk in Congress.∞∞∞ wrote:S&P? We talkin' 'bout the same S&P that gave AAA ratings to shitty securities that helped create this whole mess?

I had a feeling this was coming. SEC to conduct investigation of S&P downgrade of US as a first-step of insider trading investigation.
