All insurance has a profit motive. Using that logic you would be against all types of private insurance..

All insurance does not have a profit motive. And I’m fine with private insurance as a Cadillac plan or supplemental for those who can afford the premiums. A base level of government funded insurance that enables quality healthcare for all including catastrophic and expensive is beyond reasonable.

Insurance shouldn’t be for yearly checkups & basic preventative care. You usually don’t use your insurance when you take your vehicle into the dealer/local mechanic for basic maintenance & upkeep. Prices are posted. You know what you are paying. It should be the same way at the docs office & hospital.

That would mean that we should get rid of employer sponsored health insurance and let individual consumers pay for and manage their health insurance.

And you do realize that many of the major home, auto, life insurance companies are mutual insurance companies, owned by the policyholders so their for-profit motive is a little different: American Family Insurance, MassMutual, Nationwide, Mutual of Omaha, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, New York Life, Northwestern Mutual, etc.

The human body is not a car. But to stick with poor analogy, some folks take their car in for basic service while some drive it for years without an oil change. Guess what happens when lack of preventative maintenance causes catastrophic engine failure or at least expensive repairs? In the case of healthcare, everyone’s insurance goes up or if it’s a government program, the spending does (which you would bitch about as well )

Then there are advantages from doctors refusing to refill a prescription until a yearly is scheduled. It’s a cheap incentive which makes people healthier and saves costs in the long run.

But can there be nominal expenses that are out of pocket? Sure. Or, in the instance of Canada there’s still a premium but it’s tiny.
