In other news, SeattleGriz successfully installed ONLY windows 11 on his new computer.

Was a total fiasco. If you are not familiar with what I am talking about, you can delete everything on your computer and only install windows. In my case, it makes it so I don't have to deal with Dell bloatware. Google clean install

Anyway, it was brutal. I needed AI to help me get through the process, but now my computer is disconnected from Microsoft and anyone else looking to eat up bandwidth. AI saved me because the computer starts acting all stupid by saying it can't connect to the Internet. You can't move forward. Fucking Microsoft. I moved forward.

AI told me how to get around the Internet thing. Computer is wicked fast now. Telepathic

Put in a 2TB SSD for family photos. Found a really cool mount on the interwebs and ordered through Amazon. Super easy and professional.

Now this is a good post

Sharing your experience with that process is much appreciated and has convinced me just to stick with the iPhone…..

Seriously. The first issue was when you direct the computer to speak to the USB drive you inserted with the windows 11 file. Computer acts all stupid and says it doesn't recognize anywhere you can install the program. So you have to go find that fucking driver and add it to your USB and start over.

Then, in the process of registering your Windows 11, it somehow loses Internet connection and it looks like you are fucked. AI told me to open Command Prompt gave me a code to enter and computer rebooted and THEN gave me the option to register Windows without Microsoft sitting in my lap.

I also deleted all instances of Microsoft OneDrive from my computer.

This is a process more than a partisan political question.
The Louisiana Republican told Dasha Burns, the host of C-SPAN’s “Ceasefire” show, that the Senate could approve a funding bill for all agencies under DHS except for ICE and then pass a separate funding measure for the immigration agency through a reconciliation bill.

“Let’s open up everything but ICE, OK? Let’s open it up … but I can tell you what’s going to happen next. The Republicans are going to put a reconciliation bill on the floor that requires
Republican votes to fund ICE, and the Democrats don’t have the vote to stop us,” Kennedy said.

“Now, that to me is a resolution to this,” the senator continued. “I don’t think my Democratic friends are going to like it, but that’s what’s going to happen if we do it that way.”

The reconciliation process would allow Republicans to override the Senate’s 60-vote majority requirement and only require a simple majority of 51 votes in order to pass the funding measure…
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/579 ... publicans/

So some spending bills require only 50+ 1 votes to pass (ex Biden‘s Covid 3, Inflation, and New Green Deal, Trump‘s BBB) because of this ‘reconciliation‘. Some spending bills require 60 votes. WHY?

Instead of Kennedy‘s suggestion of passing a DHS bill that funds all but ICE, then using this reconciliation to fund ICE, why not just use reconciliation to fund the entire thing so only need 50+1 Senate votes but not 60?

Why not change the Senate rules so ALL spending bills require 50+1 votes to pass, not just some spending bill requiring 50+1, and some 60 votes? Seems simple. That wouldn’t be getting rid of the fillibuster, that would just be making the rules the same for all spending bills. What am I missing?

Because MAQA won't be able to help themselves and will try to shoehorn in a bunch of non reconciliation-related partisan baloney.

Democrats have similar issues.

I thought the question was rhetorical because you were smart enough to know the answer.

Changing Senate rules so all spending bills pass with 50+1 votes? Sure—either the nuclear option or a 67-vote supermajority.

And yes, MAQA should obviously just go nuclear. Democrats are going to do it anyway, so why not be first? … :sarcasm:

Having all spending bills pass with 51 by ‘reconciliation‘ (whatever that is) wouldn’t be getting rid of the filibuster, as some spending bills already only require 51. Just like all judicial nominees requiring 51 votes was not getting rid of the filibuster.

There’s 51 and 60 vote requirements. 67 WTF are you talking about? :suspicious:

Interesting that Republicans see indies to their right. Throw in the Princeton study on political outcomes vs. populist polling and you see some glaring cracks in the way we do things. This is another example of where our two-party system fails. I think I’d prefer a more proportional representation type of system.

Down on the Bethel Road they didn’t pay much attention to politics, they got it done for themselves

That’s what we need more of, less people dependent on politics more dependent on family and neighbors

A Maryland Homeowner Is Accused of Calling — And Aiding — Ice To Detain Workers Fixing Her Roof. Now a Legal Expert Says She May Have Committed a Felony
What turned a local ICE detention into a viral story was the allegation at the center of it: the homeowner reportedly called immigration authorities on the very workers she'd hired — timing the call to land right as they were about to finish a job she still owed them $10,000 for.
...
He doesn't hold back. "Instead of going after the criminals in the streets, the drug addicts — they come after the people who work."
...
When agents left with the six men, their work van remained behind — doors wide open, thousands of dollars in tools inside. No one secured it.
...
Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow at the American Immigration Council, responded to the viral footage with a legal observation. If the allegations are true, the homeowner's actions could constitute a felony under Maryland's Criminal Law Code.

The relevant statute specifically prohibits obtaining labor or services through the threatened or actual use of reporting someone's immigration status to authorities. In other words, Maryland law specifically covers this — hiring workers, then threatening deportation to avoid paying them.
If I was on the roof and knew that I was about to be detained and deported I wouldn't have used a ladder to come down. I would have torn a hole through her roof and walked down the stairs and out the front door. Leaving her with a lot more than $10,000 in repairs. What would I have to lose?
