Dear MAGA. May you find peace on this somber day of remembrance for you.
Also…BOO!

Great post Ganny.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 8:20 am Indeed happy Juneteenth. I think people miss the importance and gravity of this. It's an American celebration that we were able to throw off the stain of the first 70 years of this nation (and the many years before the USA ever existed) and cast off slavery as an institution. And we did it with the price of almost 700,000 dead Americans, and an even higher number once we factor in non-combatants. As Lincoln said in his second inaugural address, it was a "scourge of war" that was needed to eradicate this evil and America paid a very heavy price to do so, but we did it. The fruition of Lincon's Emancipation Proclamation being those final slaves in Texas who were told they were free, and free through the "every drop of blood...drawn from the sword" is a tremendous thing to be proud of as Americans. Given the toil of the millions of slaves throughout those years and the millions of a generation of Americans who died or were maimed in the effort to end the evil institution of slavery, today is a day we should have been celebrating as a nation for far longer than just the past couple of years. Happy Juneteenth indeed!

It's everyone's day. If you're an American, today's a proud day. We won the Civil War, Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was fulfilled, and we as a country ended slavery, at great cost and effort to many people, again, including the almost 700k dead and the millions of more impacted. It's a victory for all Americans.

Blacks already had a holiday, there wasn’t a need for a 2nd. It was a knee jerk holiday created in the aftermath of the BLM riots. Anything knee jerk done during or in the aftermath of BLM was just caving to the woke cult.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 10:31 amIt's everyone's day. If you're an American, today's a proud day. What holiday celebrated Blacks? Heck, this holiday doesn't celebrate Blacks. We ended slavery, we won, a lot of people died to make that happen. America is better because of this. Why do you hate America?BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:11 amBlacks already had a holiday, there wasn’t a need for a 2nd. It was a knee jerk holiday created in the aftermath of the BLM riots. The only thing good about it if your an employee is get another paid holiday or holiday pay. If you’re a private employer it sucks because it costs you $$$.

Why do you want to bend the knee to the BLM Cult?GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:15 amWhat holiday celebrated Blacks? Heck, this holiday doesn't celebrate Blacks. On the other point, sure, what's wrong about having a national holiday in June? It didn't have one so adding one isn't a bad thing.

Not bending a knee to the BLM Cult. Heck, you could argue that you're the one bending the knee to the Lost Cause cult - making sure to keep any mention of the Civil War or the end of slavery quiet is acquiescing to the Lost Cause cult that has polluted our history scholarship for more than 100 years. It's understandable that you're still impacted by that - but you should consider taking the red pill and seeing that cult for what it is and what it's done.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:22 amWhy do you want to bend the knee to the BLM Cult?GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:15 am

Memorial Day is around 3 weeks before, and the real National Independence Day, not the fake Juneteenth one, is 2+ weeks after. Using your logic we don’t have Fed holidays in March, April, or Aug, either. Should we add one in those months? I edited my above post to lay out suggestions.

I’m not calling for a national Civil War/War Between the States fed Holiday.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:33 amNot bending a knee to the BLM Cult. Juneteenth isn't a National Independence Day, or any Independence Day. It's a victory day, a day we defeated slavery, and those who'd defend that evil, forever. We won, be happy about that.
And yes, at some point I'm sure we'll have one Federal holiday per month. I think that's inevitable. People like time off. I'm still waiting for the 4-day week to come into vogue.![]()

Why wouldn’t you? It’s more than worthy and we’re overworked anyway.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 12:28 pmI’m not calling for a national Civil War/War Between the States fed Holiday.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:33 am

Well, tell that to the Fed Govt. The official holiday name is ‘Juneteenth NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY.
https://www.nps.gov/subjects/npscelebra ... teenth.htm
Why would you have a Juneteenth ‘NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY holiday 2+ weeks before the INDEPENDENCE DAY July 4th holiday?![]()

Hey, I'm not the Federal Govt, it won't be the first time they stumbled with something. Call it Victory over Slavery Day. Call it Freedom Day. Call it the Day of Jubilee. Whatever you want to call it, it's a day for celebrating the greatness of America - we were saddled with the institution of slavery through European colonization, we grappled with it politically for 85 years after giving England the boot, and then we fought the bloodiest and costliest war in American history to eradicate it. Yay America!!!!!BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 12:28 pmI’m not calling for a national Civil War/War Between the States fed Holiday.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:33 am

Veterans Day and Thanksgiving are 2-3 weeks apart. That seems to go okay. At the start of the year, we have New Years, MLK Day, and Washington's Birthday, 3 days, in the span of 7 weeks or so. Again, we seem to do okay with that. We started with just 4 Federal holidays (New Years, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) back in 1870, so adding just 7 other holidays in the next 155 years (so one every 22 years) doesn't seem like a large burden.

That’s Presidents Day. But like you said, call the holidays what you want. Like those on the left call Columbus Day Indigenous Peoples Day.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:05 pmVeterans Day and Thanksgiving are 2-3 weeks apart. That seems to go okay. Well, you were the one trying to stick to what the government actually calls the federal holidays, so I thought I'd go with Washington's birthday to keep that vibe going.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:20 pmThat’s Presidents Day. Ok I stand corrected. I see now the US Code calls it’s Washington’s Birthday. BUT many Fed agencies call Washington’s B-day ‘President’s Day’ on their public facing websites (so not following US code).

Before we had this discussion today I had no idea that the govt still formally calls it Washington's Birthday rather than President's Day. The cynic in me, though, chalks that up to again, the Lost Cause movement and its insidious infiltration in so much of what we call our history. Conflating Lincoln with Washington by calling it Presidents Day must be anathema to that group of revisionists.

As we should. Understanding of history and cultural values change. Change is universal. Blacks were not freed on the 4th.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:20 pmThat’s Presidents Day. No we shouldn’t. Columbus was a great explorer.
