But it wasn't about banks operating in both spheres of Wall Street and Main Street at the same time that brought it about, hence the red herring that is Glass-Steagal.
The aggressive nature that was created due to the combo of Financials and Securities had no cause? It's not the sole purpose of the recession.

He didn't create the concept of entitlements. They existed before him.
What program or programs would you characterize as an "entitlement program" or "entitlement programs" that existed before FDR?
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

You think those things are what we refer to as "entitlement programs?"

I don't have a problem with people arguing that entitlements have gotten out of control, and that there's too much abuse, but do you really think we should go back to the days of having basically no social safety net? You know, like how it was before FDR?

Ridiculous question, because it can't be done.....so it doesn't matter what I think.

True to a certain extent, as Glass-Steagal was being whittled away at for decades, but it's repeal didn't help as it helped enable too big to fail banks. As has been discussed before, there is no one cause but an overall perfect shit storm of deregulation/regulatory malfeasance made the recession far, far worse.

Did you just ask which FDR programs existed before FDR?

That's not what I said and it isn't what Tom said. The CONCEPT of entitlements existed long before the New Deal. Google Lester Ward. :coffee: Nobody denies that FDR implemented social welfare.

And don't forget the blame on those who pushed Fannie and Freddie to do anything they could to increase the home ownership number, and don't even forget just the average joe who knew he was getting a loan he shouldn't have and still went on his merry way. If a whole country could be responsible for a recession then we were to blame for the one we had. I don't remember people complaining about the relative ease to get credit and loans back before the crash.

Well you can't put the toothpaste back into the tube, but if you must know:

No, I'm not saying NO safety net....but unfortunately, the "safety net" has become a political football that is used to essentially buy votes at the expense of the country's future. And NO politician currently in existence is going to change that. I don't think simple "tweaking" of programs is going to accomplish anything of note from a financial standpoint either.

Agreed, but you're describing all of government...military spending, infrastructure spending, etc. The sense of entitlement transcends welfare.
