Re: Nicholls State AD is a Douchebag
It seems to me that Nichols State and Texas State agreed to play for a trophy, on the understanding that they would be competing on a level playing field. It also seems that Texas State materially changed that understanding. If you choose not to be FCS anymore, you don't get to use FCS's nice things...

Re: Delaware at Maine
Side bonus to purchasing the Maine feed... you can hear Walt Abbott and George Hale wheeze their way to a record for "oldest combined age in a two man broadcasting booth." Bonus: they get confused by the new rule allowing the forward pass. They are good for at least 20-25 misidentification...

Re: NCAA Remains Firm on UND/Nickname
The NCAA makes money on three events: the men's basketball tournament, the men's hockey tournament, and the women's basketball tournament. If you decided, today, that you wanted to get tickets to the Frozen Four, you'd go into the lottery for 2013 and not have a prayer. You'd be looking at a 6/7 yea...

Re: NCAA Remains Firm on UND/Nickname
If UMTC and UW stop playing UND in hockey due to their nickname, I will buy you a house. As much as you hate it, UND has won 7 national titles in the NCAA's 3rd most important sport (behind FBS football and men's hoops). I think they'll be okay in hockey, even if they can't bid on regionals (your ho...

Re: NCAA Remains Firm on UND/Nickname
It must also make scheduling a pain in the ars because a lot of schools have policies where they won't play teams with hostile and abusive nicknames. Wisconsin, Minnesota for example. Delaware should win, but they will have to show up. Maine can play defense, and they run on pure emotion like all Cosgrove teams.

Re: What would it take for Delaware State....
FTR I would support going to the NEC in football if it included an America East invite in all other sports. And I truly feel that if DSU were to hit the RED button...we could be seriously considered for the CAA in five years. But it would be a ROUGH five years... UMBC has been screaming for a trave...

Re: Albany at Maine Game Thread
Quick question for Maine fans - if back to back losses to Albany can't unseat Cosgrove in Maine, is there any way to get rid of him? Does getting promoted to Athletic Director count? Because that may be in the cards in the Spring. I'd rather have a hockey guy in there, but anything is better than w...

Re: Liberty in the CAA
Were it for a football only membership, you would want to remember that the four (currently, URI pending) Northeast publics would have full votes as full members of the CAA Football Conference. I can't see the student bodies at UMaine, UNH, UMass or URI being too happy about being associated with Li...

Re: Liberty in the CAA
I will say this, I would have serious reservations about my state funded school being associated with Liberty in a conference. Why? We already have Villanova. Apples and oranges. While the Catholic church has some positions that are personally distasteful to me, they don't promulgate hatred directl...

Re: Liberty in the CAA
The thing with the CAA is that after its recent retrenchment, who ISN"T a top half contender? URI and Towson are the only two teams you could say "I came back from the future and guess who won the CAA in 2011!" and I would be shocked. Obviously there are a few teams that are the peren...

Re: Maine in the CAA to stay; URI to go (early?)
What facilities upgrades does Maine need? They have brand new field turf, the stadium seats 10,000+, they built a brand new indoor practice dome, and they just built a brand new student rec center which is allowing them to make the old fieldhouse athletes only with renovated weight/training faciliti...

Re: N'Eastern...Hofstra...Maine?!?
I think the issue here is that the University is about to cut a number of academic programs and departments. There is a strong, community based "why are we spending this money on athletics?" outcry. Which I kinda understand. And, honestly, Maine football isn't the ambassador for the schoo...

I am actually going to be disappointed if Maine isn't a top 10 level team this year.
They lose very little from a team that was playing very well at the end of the season, and get all conference RB Jared Turcotte back.

Not all CAA folks.... Flying from New England/New York to Chattanooga is generally a two stops each way proposition. One at most for Dallas. With the Southwest factor (available out of Manchester, NH, Boston and Providence,RI), cheaper too.

Re: Widely Confused Acronyms in FCS
Surprised we haven't gotten into the "UM" battle yet. Claimants: University of Maine : You never really hear "UM." I think the preferred these days is "UMaine" in the style of UMass or UConn. The website is "umaine.edu" and NOT "maine.edu" which refe...
