Another Naming Controversy...

Post by SuperHornet »

...and THIS time, not involving Native Americans.

This time, it's the oldest pub in the UK, and the name is opposed by PETA. The place was named Ye Olde Fighting Cocks back in the 8th Century, but PETA wants them to change the name to Ye Olde Clever Cocks, as the original name is "offensive to chickens" and "makes (undesignated) people sick." Naturally, the owner opposes the proposed name change, as it would obliterate the history of the place, which hasn't staged a fight since the 1800s, when the UK banned cock fighting.

PETA just does this for publicity.

"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Superhornet, this thread, mocking the serious subject of cock sensitivity, is inappropriate.

Cock sensitivity, though seemingly an all consuming concern, is often deflated by harsh, thoughtless comment.

In this case, one would hope the owners might select a name to insert, inject empowerment, say, "Ye Olde Powerful Cocks".
