There's not reacting well, and then there are fatwa's. Islam in its current form has the top spot to itself among contemporary religions. Of course no one likes criticism, but there are different shades of dislike.
Islam today is more similar to Christianity during the Crusades and Inquisition. Hopefully they can evolve into something closer to what it was during the Golden Age of Islam.

Algebra and a few other math principles came out of this era. Not something a lawyer would have to concern themselves with.
