HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 16, 2010 – James Madison football head coach Mickey Matthews on Tuesday announced the dismissal of sophomore running back Corwin Acker (Landover, Md./Blake) from the team due to a violation of team rules.
Matthews commented, “Many people at JMU attempted to help Corwin improve both academically and athletically. Things did not work out and we wish him best in his future endeavors.
Hmmm... wonder what happened? As mentioned in the article, he did have a huge impact on a couple of games, but I saw him mainly as one of the "platoon" running backs. Though anytime he touched the ball he seemed to get huge gains... 8.1 ypc last year.

He did play pretty well there last year.
With all the RBs we have this isn't a huge loss for the team, but I do hate it for him. Never good to see a young person squander a chance at a free education.
Possession of marijuana coupled with a past history:
March 2007 - Pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from a fight in a Washington nightclub.
Aug. 29 - Charged with underage purchase and possession of alcohol
Oct. 26 - Suspended for violation of team rules (reinstated Nov. 2)
Oct. 31 - Charged with purchasing alcohol underage, also a misdemeanor. That day - Halloween - the JMU team was in Delaware.
Feb. 15 - Charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor
Not to jump on JMU here, but does anyone else find this odd to be announced on the school's athletics site? Just seems like these things are done quietly without being announced with a press release.

If they didn't announce it and it was found out, then people would jump on JMU for trying to hide it!
I laugh, but it is true...

This kid is in bad need of a Big Brother to teach him how to CONCEAL what he is doing. WTF!?! Who gets caught BUYING beer, much less charged? I got bust in high school at the beach with a six pack, the cops made me pour them out and laughed.
The upperclassmen on JMU's team failed this kid.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Yep. Acker was basically the 4th TB behind Sully, Yancey, and Noble (who was #1 the last 2 games). And all 3 of those guys are coming back, plus you have rFr Lee Reynolds who saw some action at slot receiver/wingback and special teams, very promising true freshman Jordan Anderson who'll be a rFr next yr, and 3 star signee Dejor Simmons. Still will be a major logjam at tailback. Because of the logjam at tailback last season and the injuries at receiver Acker played mostly slot receiver/wingback and on all the special teams.
JMU did play some 2 back field the last 2-3 games, and with a lot more talent back at TB than WR and JMU being a running team anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more 2 back backfields. Acker would likely have been on the 2 deep at either RB or wingback/slot receiver, but wouldn't have started. Not a huge loss.
