And yet, neither you or your butt buddy attempted to disprove my assertion.

Again.

Your myopic fixation (hate) of religion has incapacitated your higher thought process. You have been incapable of critical analysis...

If you were capable of critical analysis, you would have realized I'm supporting the pope pope here. I'm also on record supporting other religions and belief in a higher power, so, another fail for you.

You have not been the same since Houndawg 6'93ed you. Take a break then come back and try again.

JohnStOnge wrote:Guys, Social Security is not a program whereby you pay for what you're going to get when you retire. It is a program whereby those who are working pay to support those who have aged and stopped working. It's essentially a welfare program where the young are supporting the old.

Here is one article on the situation, but you can probably find others as I've googled them from time to time and never had a problem finding them:

Thus, Social Security is — and always has been — a transfer system from younger generations to older generations.

Dug yourself a hole to deep to climb out of, and you're doubling down. I love the tenacity.

How do you know how the guy feels? He didn't say anything of the sort in the article.
What he did say was that he pays more in taxes than all the riff raff in the area so he deserves more water. The water is a commodity and he is willing to pay more for it.

A sense of entitlement is a belief that someone is inherently deserving of privileges and special treatment. Someone who is willing to pay more for a commodity because they have the money is not an entitlement...it is the law of supply and demand.

That commodity is a public utility that belongs to everyone. He's a consumer of the water not an owner of the water. :dunce:

The point is that you're not getting something you paid for when you get social security. People have this thing where they think it's like they put their money up and now they're getting it. That's not what's going on. It's a welfare program.

Also if you look at both major elderly welfare programs together people, on average, get more out of it than they put into it even when inflation is taken into account. To say that Social Security and Medicare are not entitlement programs is ridiculous.

And that "we're all in this together" crap is just something people say when they want to justify having some people suck off of other people. Justifying a parasitic society. Oh yeah. You carry the load and I get to benefit from the fruits of your successes. We're all in this together.

No it isn't. Under current law how much you are paid in retirement is based upon how much you paid in. So if you remove the cap and and someone pays say 10x as much in, they'll be getting paid 10x as much out. Still insolvent.

Someone needs to learn about context.

An entitlement deemed by government is access to a program or benefit to a group of people based on established rights or by legislative authority.

I educated you earlier in this thread about what an entitlement was by its very definition...the belief that someone deserves privileges or special treatment. Again, when you pay for those privileges or special treatment, it's not an entitlement.

We can have the same argument all over again I guess, but your first statement (within the context of what you were replying to) was incorrect. I can accept it is a slightly tongue and cheek, smarmy post...at best.

A sense of entitlement transcends economic status and can even occur for things you pay for. There are countless examples.

How many times do you want to lose this argument? :)

There is a difference between an entitlement and a sense of entitlement.
Once you realized you stepped on your dick did you try to shift the discussion.
"wealthy entitlement" - your words not mine. The insinuation (wrong) on your part that the douchebag wanted something for free at other people's expense. Rich dude never said he wanted to be given anything.
If you would have simply said the asshole had a sense of entitlement. You wouldn't have been wrong.

Learn from this lesson, Grasshopper. I won't always be there to help.

You're such a battered wife.

Again, an exercise in futility.

Kalm NEVER acknowledges when he loses a debate. He merely shifts, then creates an irrelevant issue in an attempt to mock and draw support from the Board trolls.

I guess we're still going then...

So you read "wealthy entitlement" to mean something along the lines of SS.

Why do you think I immediately responded with a wise crack about SS?

I knew you mistook the phrase from the start. :dunce:

And we've been waltzing ever since. Whew!!!!

So now that's cleared up, we agree that 1) the wealthy CAN feel a sense of entitlement, the guy was a douchebag, water as strictly a commodity like pork bellies, ain't that simple, and that the word "entitlement" has multiple meanings and doesn't always imply just something you pay for.

I'm glad we worked that one out. :thumb:
