Who said anything about shocked? There were no great NCAA basketball teams this year, this is a nice win for UNI, but I am not shocked by it. UNI was ranked in the Top 25 for much of the year, I am not shocked that they beat KU.

Now UNI needs to shake off the euphoria and focus. I think they have a shot to win the national title. A long shot? I think yes. VERY long. But not impossible. I think that In any one game scenario they have a shot to win. I don't follow college basketball much anymore but I took a look at UNI's season results. It's not like Kansas didn't lose to a really good basketball team.

You're real close there, they're actually DUMBASSES. Not once, not twice, BUT 3 TIMES Verne said that UNI would be the first MVC team to make the sweet 16 since the Larry Bird lead INS team in 1979. Even if that's what the clueless intern put up on the teleprompter for him to say, Verne has to know enough about college basketball to smell that out as BS.

Latter, they tried to correct by stating first MVC "Champion" to reach Sweet 16 since 1979.

Not quite spot on but pretty darn close. Illinois has the potential to be one of the best programs in the Big10. KU is one of the top programs in the nation. Pretty easy choice for a Big8/12 guy to leave Illinois and go back to the school where he got his start as a coach.

I know Illini fans. I live in Chicago, my wife is an IU grad and an old roommate was a walk-on at Illinois who played with Norman, Battle, etc. A lot of the fans are rational people but they do seem to have more than their share of fans who think they are part of the college basketball elite. Those people really hate Self because he was a coach who might have been able to take them to the lofty levels where they feel they belong.

And for full disclosure, I've been a KU fan since I was 8 and wanted to be Darnell Valentine. Saturday was the first time in my life I have ever rooted against the Jayhawks.

Valid argument until when hired he said that was the end of his "Larry Brown" act. Gunther made that a priority prior to his hire; if it wasn't his dream job then the Illini weren't interested. Self's word was as good as a Goldman Sachs broker on the Greek Bond desk. Glad he's gone and he's a dick not because we want him there; but because he's a fricken dirt bag.

Just the ones about NCAA sanctions, basketball players being given new Chevy Blazers, football players beating the crap out of people in CU bars, basketball players with FELONY breaking and entering arrest, and finally, having a convicted FELON on the basketball team.

J Smith would of been the first ever convicted felon to participate as a representative of any B10 university in any inter-collegiate event. That makes one real proud of the Illini.

Trivia: Name for me the B10 University that has been sanctioned/penalized more times than any other by the NCAA.

Those are the kind of conversations I'm glad we will never be part of.
