Colorado Governor: Legalizing pot was bad idea

“If I could've waved a wand the day after the election, I would've reversed the election and said, 'This was a bad idea,’ ” Hickenlooper said Friday on CNBC's “Squawk Box.”

“You don't want to be the first person to do something like this,” he said.

He said that he tells other governors to “wait a couple of years” before legalizing marijuana as Colorado continues to navigate an unknown, nonexisting federal regulatory landscape for the industry.

“There's a whole regulatory environment ... that really regulates alcohol,” he said. “We're starting from scratch, and we don't have a federal partner because [marijuana] is still illegal federally.”

Vague references to non-existent issues. "Wahhhhh, I don't have the feds to hold my hand and tell me what to do....!" Great governor they have over there in Colorado. These statements prove that he's a follower, not a leader. :coffee:

The problem is Colorado moved certain processes to quickly...
Washington has moved much more slowly and more cautiously

Washington's Jay Inslee is much slower in making moves and more interested in other people opinions on how to proceed in a manner best suitable for the state

Just like some people shouldn't drink whiskey or some people abuse alcohol to their own detriment.

If you go into a weed shop here in free Washington, all the varieties are labeled, the hybrids list the strains, and the levels of THC are noted.

If the body high of a strong Indica or hybrid makes you uncomfortable, you can avoid it. I'm sure this labeling process and science behind the various effects will become even more refined going forward.

A person never knows what they're getting, buying it on the street. This is another perfect example supporting the wisdom of legalization. Same thing applies to heroine.

Rather, people should have access to a well regulated female hero of their choice.

Here are 4 ways cannabis is good for your brain — and may save you
Modern research is showing that cannabis extracts protect and benefit the human brain. Here’s four amazing ways scientists are showing that cannabis actually helps to keep your brain safe from disease, dementia and even death!

#4 – Cannabis promotes new brain cell growth

Government scare campaigns often claim that cannabis kills brain cells, but now we are learning the truth. Those discredited studies were done in the ’70s, by strapping a gas mask onto a monkey and pumping in hundreds of joints worth of smoke. The monkeys suffered from lack of oxygen, and that’s why their brain cells died.

Modern research is now proving the opposite. The active ingredients in cannabis spur the growth of new brain cells!

Back in 2005, Dr. Xia Zhang at the University of Saskatchewan showed that cannabinoids cause “neurogenesis” – which means that they help make new brain cells grow!

“Most ‘drugs of abuse’ suppress neurogenesis,” said Dr. Zhang. “Only marijuana promotes neurogenesis.”

Scientists in Brazil expanded on this research, demonstrating in 2013 that CBD, another chemical in cannabis, also causes new brain cells to sprout up. Researchers in Italy then produced the same result with CBC, another “cannabinoid” found in cannabis resin.

Now there is no doubt that cannabinoids cause new brain cells to grow in the hippocampus. This helps explain previous research showing that cannabinoids effectively treat mood disorders like depression, anxiety and stress – they are all related to a lack of adult neurogenesis.

Pothead Muslim stabs two...

A Detroit man stabbed two people at a suburban bus stop after asking his victims whether or not they were Muslim, according to police. Federal authorities are now looking at the case as a potential hate crime, police said on Tuesday. Both of the victims were standing at the bus stop outside of Detroit with the suspect on Saturday, Southfield Police Chief Eric Hawkins said. Several people there “engaged in conversation” until the suspect, identified by Hawkins as 39-year-old Terrence Lavaron Thomas, “asked some of the folks there if they were Muslims.”Two of them answered, the chief told The Post on Tuesday: They were not Muslims.“[Thomas] was not not happy with that answer,” Hawkins said. Shortly after, “without provocation,” Thomas pulled out a 3-inch folding knife “and attacked one of them,” Hawkins said. Both victims are in their early 50′s. One was stabbed five times in the attack. The other was stabbed in the hand as he tried to stop the attack, Hawkins said. Both were released from the hospital with “non-life threatening injuries.”Thomas then fled the scene, Hawkins said. Police arrested him “within minutes.” He was carrying two knives — one of which appeared to be the one used in the attack — and some marijuana, according to Hawkins.Although authorities have not made a statement on the suspect’s motive, Hawkins added that “we do know that he was not happy that [the victims] indicated that they were not Muslims.” Thomas “said that he was a Muslim,” Hawkins said.Thomas was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, one count of carrying a dangerous weapon, and one count of possession of a controlled substance — all state charges.Thomas could face a state charge of ethnic intimidation as well, Hawkins said, but county prosecutors were still determining whether it would be added or not.According to the Detroit Free Press, Magistrate Eman Jajonie-Daman set Thomas’s bond at $1 million and scheduled a preliminary examination for March 4.Michigan’s hate crimes law defines “ethnic intimidation,” a felony, as when a person acts “maliciously, and with specific intent to intimidate or harass another person because of that person’s race, color, religion, gender, or national origin.”Hawkins added that the FBI has been contacted about the case, and  are “looking at it as a potential hate crime” to determine whether federal charges are warranted.

Interesting twist here but yeah, why not?
In a classic case of “unintended consequences,” the recently signed Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) in Indiana may have opened the door for the establishment of the First Church of Cannabis in the Hoosier State.

While Governor Mike Pence (R) was holding a signing ceremony for the bill allowing businesses and individuals to deny services to gays on religious grounds or values, paperwork for the First Church of Cannabis Inc. was being filed with the Secretary of State’s office, reports RTV6.

Church founder Bill Levin announced on his Facebook page that the church’s registration has been approved, writing, “Status: Approved by Secretary of State of Indiana – “Congratulations your registration has been approved!” Now we begin to accomplish our goals of Love, Understanding, and Good Health.”

Tman is really dropping the ball on this one. :ohno:
Denver, Colorado and Coachella Valley, California – Marijuana candies, sold on the street as ‘Uncle Tweety’s Chewy Flipper’ and ‘Gummy Satans’ are taking the country by storm. Each candy is an emulsification of sweetened Jello, vodka and minced marijuana. Huffington Post reports that within a week, 9 college students have died from these marijuana candies.

New reports from Coachella confirm one young man has died after eating a handful of these dangerous homebrewed gummies.

Marijuana advocates love to argue that pot is not dangerous. But breaking down the report from Huffington Post right now reveals the tragic truth: marijuana is dangerous, especially in candy form.

True conservatives should know that the way to remedy whatever ills they may perceive is NOT more legislation.

I disagree with punishing a bakery owner who chooses not to bake for gay weddings, but the answer is not more bad laws.

Joey and Chad Mudd are facing multiple felony child abuse charges, court records show. The children were provided the pot, investigators say, in the family’s home in Largo, a city 20 miles from Tampa Bay.Chad Mudd, 36, has also been charged with providing the girls with cocaine, which he allegedly snorted with them earlier this year while the trio was inside his truck.

Mother: Son accused in officer killings had drug problem

Associated Press
By JAY REEVES and JEFF AMY

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Marvin Banks' drug use and drinking had worsened in recent years and he was hearing voices in his head. His mother said she had hoped he would get help. He didn't, and now he is charged with capital murder in the deaths of two police officers in Mississippi.
His girlfriend and brother are charged as accessories and a friend faces an obstruction charge.
Banks' mother, Mary Smith, said when she saw the booking photos of her 26-year-old son, she knew something was off."He was sick and out of his head and I tried to get him some help," she said on the steps of the Forrest County Courthouse, where she had gone to find out more information about her sons' arrest.
Marvin Banks had been smoking synthetic marijuana, known as spice, every day."He was on that spice. He was on every drug there was. Spice, powder, marijuana, drinking," she said.
