Totally agree with this.Cluck U wrote:Who said anything about a healthy economy? Money rules...and America doesn't run on Dunkin Donuts...it runs on convincing everyone that they need the latest and greatest gadget - usually intentionally made to be replaced every few years.kalm wrote: Oh for fuck's sake relax Clucky. A healthly modern economy isn't driven by cabbage patch kids, snake oil, or seashells (btw, that was a nice addition![]()

But I'm sure glad the trillions sitting on the sidelines have chosen to back pet rocks!...![]()
THAT is what drives our economy...consumer spending...mostly on unecessary, disposable crap.![]()
And the stuff that is "necessary" is designed to fail/be outdated so that you will need/want another one in 5-10 years.
The whole housing market is a boom for the economy because of the need for Americans to fill those houses with STUFF.
We are the leading economy in the world...with China right behind, because we purchase things to make our lives easier...but things we really don't need. Marketing...keeping up with the Joneses...drives demand.
And it just might be sustainable. As long as resources are infinite and people can continue to afford to buy those things...aaaaaahhh dammit, there I go with wages again.
