1. Michigan > VT - not enough people hate VT. UVA's fanbase is much smaller than Ohio State or Penn State and not in the same universe as passionate. I despise VT, but I'm in the minority.

2. VT had already lost.

3. App>UM was the first win over a ranked I-A, that will always be bigger.

Agreed. Now obviously if VT had beaten Boise the week before they would have easily been in the top five and this would have gotten a lot more coverage nationally. Personally, I'm a little surprised at the lack of attention the Dukes victory received. App/Michigan is etched in sports fans minds forever and will always be considered one of the greatest upsets in sports history, I don't think you can say the same for JMU/Tech.

The JMU/VaTech game was a dreary day, the only coverage was Internet to start with, and the media was all ready giving VaTech their excuses before the game was over...short rest, sloppy field and so on. But in Va this was big, VaTech is the most over-hype team in all BCS here here in Va. You can't go anywhere in Va without seeing VaTech stuff it's in Cracker Barrel, Wal-Mart, as a FCS school you get so tied of it. I mean even the bander at the bottom of a FCS message is for VaTech stuff. :evil:
Go back to the late 80s-mid 90s and it was the opposite, when UVGay still had a perenially Top 25 program, and before the 95' VT Sugar Bowl win over TX and 96' Orange bowl appearance, it was the opposite- UVGay stuff everwhere, and definitely more than VT. Now that UVGay has mostly sucked (at least as far as a BCS team) for the last decade or so in both FB abd BB, you don't see their stuff nearly as much as you used to.

The only thing that would be bigger than App over Michigan would be a I-AA knocking off a #1-#4 BCS, as Michigan was ranked #5. Ranked I-A vs I-AA 1978-2009 was 201-1, so now its around 210-2. I think within the next few years were could see it happen again, but I doubt we'll ever see a I-AA knock off the #1-#4 BCS.

JMU didn't get the attention that ASu got in 07', but as far as any notion that JMU didn't get loads of national attention over this, not true. Were literally hundreds of articles from across the country on this:

http://news.google.com/news/story?pz=1& ... ted+States" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Was the top story on the 11:00 PM Sportcenter on 9/11 and got 6 minutes of coverage - that's pretty significant.

And has been said before, this was monumental news in the state of VA. Front page of nearly every newspaper in the state. Richmond Times Dispatch last Sun:
