Democrats drop Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson from dinner name
Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson are history in Connecticut.

Under pressure from the NAACP, the state Democratic Party will scrub the names of the two presidents from its annual fundraising dinner because of their ties to slavery.

Party leaders voted unanimously Wednesday night in Hartford to rename the Jefferson Jackson Bailey dinner in the aftermath of last month’s fatal shooting of nine worshipers at the historic black church in Charleston, S.C.

The decision is believed to be unprecedented and could prompt Democrats in other states with similarly-named events to follow suit.

“I see it as the right thing to do,” Nick Balletto, the party’s first-year chairman, told Hearst Connecticut Media Wednesday night. “I wasn’t looking to be a trailblazer or set off a trend that’s going to affect the rest of the country. Hopefully, they’ll follow suit when they see it’s the right thing to do.”

Let's not getting carried away now.

Rock music derived mainly from Delta Blues and R&B. But let's not forget what R&B turned into in the modern era. Remember the 1980's? :puke:

American music, while rooted in the south is not Southern music. Southern music influence is a component of it.

And what about the origins of punk? It was a rejection of the direction that rock had taken and was heavily influenced by reggae.

How about western music? As influenced by folk ballads from Britain and Mexico as Appalachia and purely a regional genre of it's own.

The bread clip was invented in Washington State. American bread clips are Washington bread clips. :poke: :shit: :finger:
:tothehand:

R&B and Delta Blues...Southern.
Like 80's "R&B", Punk is mostly...:puke: BUT Rockabilly music was much more of an influence on Punk than Reggae. And, of course, Rockabilly is...you got it....Southern. :butt:

Western Music (heavily influenced by Mexican music) merged with Country Music (Appalachia Hillbilly Music...influenced by Celtic Folk...yes, Southern) merged and became Country/Western.

Jazz
Gospel
Country
Bluegrass

It isn't all of them but almost.

I agree with you on punk. More modern genres are certainly harder to pin down to any region in particular. Punk really sprung up internationally, though. England has as much of a claim to it as we do. I certainly don't consider it to be something considered "American music." The South didn't invent Electronic Dance Music either...

I did say after the diaspora my statement was less true.

Bullet holes found in second black church on James Island

James Island United Congregational Church at 1890 Central Park Road, where at least nine bullet holes were discovered Thursday morning, is only a couple hundred yards from Bethel AME Church at 1827 Central Park Road, where four bullet holes in the main window of the sanctuary were found the day before.

Charleston County deputies are investigating the second shooting with the FBI and several other agencies, Maj. Eric Watson said. Markers could be seen in both front windows and the door.

Charleston city police are investigating the first shooting at Bethel. The agencies are working together to see if the two incidents are connected.

The Rev. Hercules Champaign, pastor of United Congregational Church, said he struggled to grasp what type of person would fire into a church. He said he couldn’t help but connect the shooting with the damage at Bethel AME down the road, and he also thought of the rampage at Emanuel Church in Charleston last month in which nine people were shot to death.

“It’s a scary situation,” Champaign said outside the damaged church building Thursday. “Any time people attack a house of God, it’s a terrible thing.”

People have attacked a house of God since the first one was built, and a good chunk of the attacks have come from other houses of God.

Now, how many bullet holes were found in Chicago yesterday? :suspicious:
