I was pleased with NAU's average - coming in #45, and not too far below the conference average.

Didn't they REDUCE their capacity by something like 4,000 when they put in all the new seats?

Yes - it is at 10K now, since all the bleachers were replaced with chairs. So they were at 82% of capacity.

We get closer to 9k avg attendance, but not surprised we averaged 6.6k with CP (10.9k) being the only good game worth the price of admission. WSU (6.5k, home opener) and MSU (6.4k) coming in at 2nd and 3rd.

I'm not sure how my calculations are off of what Jon took from the report. My Sky average attendance calculated from the team averages was a bit lower at about 8,800.

This was skewed by the success that the Montanas had at the gate. I made a spreadsheet comparing all of us to my calculated conference average and to a corrected conference average removing the Montanas from the average. Whether my calculated average is correct or not is beside the point. What jumps out would jump out even with the reported average: the Montanas did VERY well at the gate, most of us were at least semi-respectable, but below expected, and three of us (those noted by AZ) had better get their acts in gear to beef up attendance.

FYI, I have no idea how to paste a spreadsheet, so this isn't going to print right. I hope you can get the gist of what I'm trying to do with it....

And there is NO WAY we had that many fans in the seats. Even with all of the thousands of free tickets given to every group imaginable, we might have averaged about 12K in the seats.

Divide the total attendance by the total number of home games.

You can't use average team attendance because some teams only hosted 5 home games while others hosted 8 game. It would unfairly skew the average attendance towards the 5 home game group if you counted their average as much as you did the 8 home game group.

Same with Portland State. Photo evidence shows that many games had less than 1,000 people...not sure how they got their average above 4,000.

Down with the Liberty's and Jacksonville State's.

Sad times.

And the actual butts in seats figure is probably closer to 10k.

Their average drops by a couple of thousand in the years when Delaware doesn't play there . :coffee:
Spoiler: show
That used to be true. Probably not so much anymore now that we suck.

That would do it.

The numbers will change, of course, but I think my conclusions will still hold: the Montanas are way out in front in terms of attendance, the middle-of-the-pack is just that: middling, but semi-respectable in terms of almost everyone else out there, and the three at the back had better get moving....

You don't count the MSU game as a "price of admission" game? And you wonder why MSU or UM are on TV every week, and you guys get one game (normally against one of the Montana schools).

PS. The rest of the Big Sky better figure there shit out quick.

PPS. I remember back in the 90's when the Cats would get about 2K to a home game, so I don't want to hear any "Poor us" crap...Get some marketing people, and some direction, and get to work.

No I don’t, MSU doesn’t garner interest in Sac like UM does. And spare me the Root Sports talk, last I checked CA residents need the sports package add on from DirectTV to even get that channel.
PS. The rest of the Big Sky better figure there shit out quick.
The Root deal doesn’t serve the entire geographic area of the BSC. Besides, our rivalry game is already on regional TV.

Oh you are comparing sports entertainment draw between rural Montana and NorCal. Sure helps being the only show in town…err in the Montana’s case: nearest 500 miles. :coffee:
