I see 9-3 if NAU can get a split between CP and SUU, which should be good enough for an at-large. I know they changed the criteria for rating DII's, but is Abilene Christian a DI counter? Is New Mexico NAIA or DII?
Basically NAU needs to post a really good conference record. I think they can do that.

ACU is a second-year transitional, so they count as an FCS opponent.

8-4 is my best case scenario. Another loss or two at South Dakota or Portland State and a 6-6 season wouldn't surprise me.
Losing so many starters on defense concerns me more than replacing Bauman. NAU returns quite a bit of talent on offense. Lots of shoot outs this season but probably no return to the playoffs.

This would be more funny if I didn't look at our own Hens' 2013 results and see a team that went 7-2 in the first nine games and end up 7-5.89Hen wrote:BTW, if history teaches us anything it would look like this...

Yeah, but the good/bad news is the Hens won't be 7-2 this year.93henfan wrote:This would be more funny if I didn't look at our own Hens' 2013 results and see a team that went 7-2 in the first nine games and end up 7-5.
I also realize my dig at NAU is getting a little long in the tooth. It was several years ago now that they finished 0-4 two years in a row. I just remember a lot of people getting burned by picking them so high.

Re: Predict NAU's season
Who knows. After we lose to Pittsburgh, we could bust off a helluva start to the schedule because we have juggernauts like Del State, Colgate, and Goldey Beacom lined up pretty.89Hen wrote:Yeah, but the good/bad news is the Hens won't be 7-2 this year.93henfan wrote:This would be more funny if I didn't look at our own Hens' 2013 results and see a team that went 7-2 in the first nine games and end up 7-5.![]()

5-1 is certainly reasonable and honestly expected. But from there out...93henfan wrote:Who knows. So if we split my toss-ups, I have us at 7-5. Another typical Delaware season of late.

To be honest, I vividly remember that 0-14 streak. I've been in the stands for about 8 or so of those games between Flagstaff and Missoula. Even developed a few nervous tics courtesy of Dave Dickenson. But this long suffering makes the most recent 2-0 streak that much better.
2015 for the game in Missoula is written in on my calendar. The Mo Club, The Rhino, Big Sky Brewing, that steak restaurant in (I think?) Lolo and hiking in the Bitterroots are all calling my name.

You don't recall things correctly. It was actually 28-3, and NAU never subbed their starters out (Bauman was still in on the final drive).CaliLumberJack wrote:If recall correctly it was 31-3 going into the 4th quarter when montana went to NAU last year. Luckily the coaches wanted the back ups to get some action.
Yeah, because your team is exactly the same. With an easier schedule than last year NAU goes 9-3.

Pre-season optimism from Jacks fans. That's all it is.Mvemjsunpx wrote: Yeah, because your team is exactly the same. You do realize Bauman & most of the defense are gone, right? The only reason I picked 7-5 for this year is because the last month of NAU's schedule should be a cakewalk.
The same pre-season optimism Griz fans have even though this year's five tough road games @ Wyoming, NDSU, Cal Poly, EWU, SUU and the end of the season coin flip (road teams seem to be winning often, recently) vs. MSU makes for not a cake walk to a 10-2 record.

You're overrating CP and especially Southern Utah. I don't see MSU as a coin flip, either, even with the road team winning every recent meeting.mtjack wrote:Pre-season optimism from Jacks fans. Wyoming, NDSU, & EWU are coin flips; the Griz are at least moderate favorites in the rest IMO.
