red line debacle - conks are just mad we didn't kill more American troops in a Middle-eastern war we can't win.
As noted above I disagree with the "...war we can't win" part. I don't think the United States has been involved in a war it couldn't win in its entire history.
But it's been involved in wars it didn't have the will to win; wars such that the United States population did not have the patience and persistence to win. Also there has been the "we will tie one hand behind our back" thing.
The truth is North Vietnam had no chance to win the Vietnam war so long as the United States was willing to do what it took to win. Didn't matter how much North Vietnam was willing to do. As long as the United States was willing to do what it took in terms of effort and persistence North Vietnam could not have won that war. And in that war is was more than just not being persistent. It was a "let's tie one hand behind our back" war where we would not go on the strategic offensive, invade North Vietnam, and depose its government.
Afghanistan is a war our enemy can't win unless we lack patience. But we lack patience. Same with Iraq.
So no, we are not in any wars we "can't win" nor have we been in any such wars. We just aren't always willing to do what it TAKES to win.
